The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2679
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: Once I went along with my father to the Prophet (ﷺ) while there was a man with him, and he was whispering to him. It seemed as if the Prophet (ﷺ) did not pay any attention to us. When we left, my father said to me, "O my son! Did you see how your uncle (meaning "The Prophet") did not pay any attention to us?" I said, "O my father! There was a man with him, and he was whispering to him." So, we returned to the Prophet (ﷺ) and my father said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I said something like this and this to 'Abdullah, and he told me that there was a man with you who was whispering to you. Was there really somebody with you?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "O 'Abdullah! Did you really see him?" I said, "Yes." He said, "He was Gabriel, and that is why I could not pay attention to you."

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما فرماتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ میں اپنے والد کے ساتھ نبی ﷺ کے پاس آیا، نبی ﷺ کے پاس اس وقت ایک آدمی موجود تھا جس سے وہ سرگوشی کر رہے تھے، ایسا محسوس ہوا جیسے نبی ﷺ نے میرے والد کی طرف توجہ ہی نہیں کی، جب ہم وہاں سے نکلے تو والد صاحب مجھے کہنے لگے: بیٹا! تم نے اپنے چچا زاد کو دیکھا کہ وہ کیسے ہماری طرف توجہ ہی نہیں کر رہے تھے؟ میں نے عرض کیا: اباجان! ان کے پاس ایک آدمی تھا جس سے وہ سرگوشی کر رہے تھے، ہم پھر نبی ﷺ کے پاس واپس آگئے، والد صاحب کہنے لگے: یا رسول اللہ! میں نے عبداللہ سے اس طرح ایک بات کہی تو اس نے مجھے بتایا کہ آپ کے پاس کوئی آدمی تھا جو آپ سے سرگوشی کر رہا تھا، تو کیا واقعی آپ کے پاس کوئی تھا؟ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”عبداللہ! کیا تم نے واقعی اسے دیکھا ہے؟“ میں نے عرض کیا: جی ہاں! فرمایا: ”وہ جبرئیل تھے اور اسی وجہ سے میں آپ کی طرف متوجہ نہیں ہو سکا تھا۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a farmate hain ki ek martaba main apne wald ke sath Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke pass aaya, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke pass us waqt ek aadmi maujood tha jisse woh sargoshi kar rahe the, aisa mehsoos hua jaise Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne mere wald ki taraf tawajjo hi nahin ki, jab hum wahan se nikle to wald sahab mujhe kehne lage: Beta! tumne apne chacha zad ko dekha ki woh kaise hamari taraf tawajjo hi nahin kar rahe the? mainne arz kiya: Abajan! unke pass ek aadmi tha jisse woh sargoshi kar rahe the, hum phir Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke pass wapas aaye, wald sahab kehne lage: Ya Rasulullah! mainne Abdullah se is tarah ek baat kahi to usne mujhe bataya ki aapke pass koi aadmi tha jo aapse sargoshi kar raha tha, to kya waqai aapke pass koi tha? Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: "Abdullah! kya tumne waqai use dekha hai?" mainne arz kiya: ji haan! farmaya: "woh Jibraeel the aur isi wajah se main aapki taraf mutawajjah nahin ho saka tha.".
حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَعِنْدَهُ رَجُلٌ يُنَاجِيهِ، فَكَانَ كَالْمُعْرِضِ عَنْ أَبِي، فَخَرَجْنَا مِنْ عِنْدِهِ، فَقَالَ لِي أَبِي: أَيْ بُنَيَّ، أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ابْنِ عَمِّكَ كَالْمُعْرِضِ عَنِّي؟ فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَبَتِ، إِنَّهُ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ رَجُلٌ يُنَاجِيهِ , قَالَ: فَرَجَعْنَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ أَبِي: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ: كَذَا وَكَذَا، فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ كَانَ عِنْدَكَ رَجُلٌ يُنَاجِيكَ، فَهَلْ كَانَ عِنْدَكَ أَحَدٌ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" وَهَلْ رَأَيْتَهُ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ؟" , قَالَ: قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ , قَالَ:" فَإِنَّ ذَاكَ جِبْرِيلُ، وَهُوَ الَّذِي شَغَلَنِي عَنْكَ".
