The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2734
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidna Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man from the Ansar uttered indecent words about the father of Sayyidna 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) - who had passed away in the pre-Islamic era. Sayyidna 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) slapped him. The people of his tribe came and said that we will also slap him in the same manner as he has slapped. And they started to put on their weapons. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to know about this, he ascended the pulpit and said: "O people! Tell me, who is the most honorable among the people of the earth in the sight of Allah?" The people said: You are. He said: "Then Abbas is from me and I am from him, so do not torture our living by abusing our dead." Hearing this, the people of that Ansar came and said that we seek refuge in Allah from Your anger.

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ انصار میں سے ایک آدمی نے سیدنا عباس رضی اللہ عنہ کے والد - جو زمانہ جاہلیت میں ہی فوت ہو گئے تھے - کے متعلق نازیبا کلمات کہے، سیدنا عباس رضی اللہ عنہ نے اسے طمانچہ دے مارا، اس کی قوم کے لوگ آئے اور کہنے لگے کہ ہم بھی انہیں اسی طرح طمانچہ ماریں گے جیسے انہوں نے مارا ہے، اور اسلحہ پہننے لگے، نبی ﷺ کو جب اس بات کا پتہ چلا تو آپ ﷺ منبر پر تشریف لائے اور فرمایا: ”اے لوگو! یہ بتاؤ کہ اللہ کی بارگاہ میں اہل زمین میں سب سے زیادہ معزز کون ہے؟“ لوگوں نے عرض کیا: آپ ہیں، فرمایا کہ ”پھر عباس مجھ سے ہیں اور میں ان سے ہوں، اس لئے تم ہمارے فوت شدگان کو برا بھلا کہہ کر ہمارے زندوں کو اذیت نہ پہنچاؤ۔“ یہ سن کر اس انصاری کی قوم والے آئے اور کہنے لگے کہ ہم آپ کے غصے سے اللہ کی پناہ میں آتے ہیں۔
Sayyidaana Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Ansaar mein se aik aadmi ne Sayyidaana Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke walid - jo zamaana jahiliyat mein hi foot ho gaye the - ke mutalliq nazeba kalmaat kahe, Sayyidaana Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne use thamancha de maara, uski qaum ke log aaye aur kahne lage ki hum bhi unhen isi tarah thamancha maarenge jaise unhon ne maara hai, aur aslaha pahenne lage, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko jab is baat ka pata chala to aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) mimbar par tashrif laaye aur farmaya: ”Aye logo! Yeh batao ki Allah ki baargaah mein ahle zameen mein sab se zyada moazziz kaun hai?“ Logon ne arz kiya: Aap hain, farmaya ki ”Phir Abbas mujh se hain aur main un se hun, is liye tum hamare foot shudaagan ko bura bhala kah kar hamare zindaon ko aziyat na pahunchao.“ Yeh sun kar us Ansaari ki qaum wale aaye aur kahne lage ki hum aap ke ghusse se Allah ki panaah mein aate hain.
حَدَّثَنِي حُجَيْنُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ وَقَعَ فِي أَبٍ لِلْعَبَّاسِ كَانَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، فَلَطَمَهُ الْعَبَّاسُ، فَجَاءَ قَوْمَهُ، فَقَالُوا: وَاللَّهِ لَنَلْطِمَنَّهُ كَمَا لَطَمَهُ , فَلَبِسُوا السِّلَاحَ، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَصَعِدَ الْمِنْبَرَ، فَقَالَ:" أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، أَيُّ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ أَكْرَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ؟" , قَالُوا: أَنْتَ , قَالَ:" فَإِنَّ الْعَبَّاسَ مِنِّي، وَأَنَا مِنْهُ، فَلَا تَسُبُّوا مَوْتَانَا، فَتُؤْذُوا أَحْيَاءَنَا" , فَجَاءَ الْقَوْمُ، فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، نَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ غَضَبِكَ.
