The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2831
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidna Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived in Madinah, he saw the Jews fasting on the tenth of Muharram. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked them, "Is there any particular reason why you fast on this day?" They replied, "This is a great day, on this day Allah granted victory to the Children of Israel over their enemy, and Moses (peace be upon him) fasted on this day." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "I have more right over Moses than you." So, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) himself fasted and ordered the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) to fast on this day.

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ جب مدینہ منورہ تشریف لائے تو یہودیوں کو دس محرم کا روزہ رکھتے ہوئے دیکھا، نبی ﷺ نے ان سے پوچھا کہ ”اس دن جو تم روزہ رکھتے ہو، اس کی کوئی خاص وجہ ہے؟“ انہوں نے جواب دیا کہ یہ بڑا اچھا دن ہے، اس دن اللہ نے بنی اسرائیل کو ان کے دشمن سے نجات عطا فرمائی تھی، جس پر حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے روزہ رکھا تھا، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”تمہاری نسبت موسیٰ کا مجھ پر زیادہ حق بنتا ہے۔“ چنانچہ نبی ﷺ نے خود بھی روزہ رکھا اور صحابہ رضی اللہ عنہم کو بھی اس دن کا روزہ رکھنے کا حکم دیا۔
Sayyidina Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) jab Madina Munawwara tashreef laaye to yahudiyon ko Dus Muharram ka roza rakhte huye dekha, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne unse pucha ki “Is din jo tum roza rakhte ho, iski koi khas wajah hai?” Unhon ne jawab diya ki yah bada achha din hai, is din Allah ne Bani Israil ko unke dushman se nijaat ata farmaai thi, jis par Hazrat Musa Alaihissalam ne roza rakha tha, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: “Tumhari nisbat Musa ka mujh par zyada haq banta hai.” Chunancha Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne khud bhi roza rakha aur Sahaba (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ko bhi is din ka roza rakhne ka hukm diya.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ، فَرَأَى الْيَهُودَ يَصُومُونَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ:" مَا هَذَا الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي تَصُومُونَهُ؟" قَالُوا: هَذَا يَوْمٌ صَالِحٌ، هَذَا يَوْمٌ نَجَّى اللَّهُ فِيهِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مِنْ عَدُوِّهِمْ، فَصَامَهُ مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" أَنَا أَحَقُّ بِمُوسَى مِنْكُمْ" فَصَامَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَأَمَرَ بِصَوْمِهِ.
