The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2946
Ata ibn Abi Rabah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that once, Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) invited his brother, Sayyiduna Fadl (may Allah be pleased with him), for a meal on the day of Arafah. He (Sayyiduna Fadl) replied that he was fasting. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Do not fast on this day (while in the state of Ihram) because milk was milked in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on this day and put in a bowl and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) drank it, and the people follow your example (seeing you fasting, they may consider it insignificant).”

عطا بن ابی رباح رحمہ اللہ کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ سیدنا عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے اپنے بھائی سیدنا فضل رضی اللہ عنہ کو عرفہ کے دن کھانے پر بلایا، انہوں نے کہہ دیا کہ میں تو روزے سے ہوں، سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے فرمایا: آج کے دن کا (احرام کی حالت میں) روزہ نہ رکھا کرو کیونکہ نبی ﷺ کے سامنے اس دن دودھ دوہ کر ایک برتن میں پیش کیا گیا تو نبی ﷺ نے اسے نوش فرما لیا اور لوگ تمہاری اقتدا کرتے ہیں (تمہیں روزہ رکھے ہوئے دیکھ کر کہیں وہ اسے اہمیت نہ دینے لگیں)۔
Ata bin Abi Rabah rehmatullahi alaih kehte hain ke ek martaba Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas raziAllahu anhuma ne apne bhai Sayyiduna Fazal raziAllahu anhu ko Arafah ke din khane par bulaya, unhon ne keh diya ke main to roze se hun, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas raziAllahu anhuma ne farmaya: aaj ke din ka (ehram ki halat mein) roza na rakha karo kyunki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke samne is din doodh doha kar ek bartan mein pesh kiya gaya to Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne use nosh farma liya aur log tumhari iqtida karte hain (tumhein roze rakhe hue dekh kar kahin wo ise ehmiyat na dene lagein).
حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ عَطَاءً أَخْبَرَهُ" أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ دَعَا الْفَضْلَ يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ إِلَى طَعَامٍ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي صَائِمٌ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ: لَا تَصُمْ، فَإِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قُرِّبَ إِلَيْهِ حِلَابٌ، فَشَرِبَ مِنْهُ هَذَا الْيَوْمَ، وَإِنَّ النَّاسَ يَسْتَنُّونَ بِكُمْ".
