The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 3007
Yazid bin Asam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once I went to Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "A man got married and invited us. He presented thirteen lizards on a plate. It was evening time. Some ate it and some abstained. His companions started talking excessively, even some people said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'I neither eat it nor forbid it, nor do I command it, nor do I forbid it.'" Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You have said wrong. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sent to determine what is lawful and what is unlawful." Then he said: "Actually, a plate was presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on which bread and lizard meat were kept. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) intended to eat it, Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: 'O Messenger of Allah! This is lizard meat.' Hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) withdrew his hand and said: 'This is a meat that I do not eat, but you may eat it.' So, Sayyidina Fadl, Sayyidina Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with them) and the woman with them ate it, and Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: 'I do not eat what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) does not eat.'"

یزید بن اصم رحمہ اللہ کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ میں نے سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کی خدمت میں حاضر ہو کر عرض کیا کہ فلاں آدمی کی شادی ہوئی، اس نے ہماری دعوت کی، اس نے دستر خوان پر تیرہ عدد گوہ لاکر پیش کیں، شام کا وقت تھا، کسی نے اسے کھایا اور کسی نے اجتناب کیا، ان کے ساتھی بڑھ چڑھ کر بولنے لگے حتی کہ بعض لوگوں نے یہاں تک کہہ دیا کہ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا ہے کہ ”میں اسے کھاتا ہوں اور نہ ہی حرام کرتا ہوں، نہ ہی اس کا حکم دیتا ہوں اور نہ ممانعت کرتا ہوں“، اس پر سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کہنے لگے کہ تم نے غلط کہا، نبی ﷺ کو تو بھیجا ہی اس لئے گیا تھا کہ حلال و حرام کی تعیین کر دیں۔ پھر فرمایا: دراصل نبی ﷺ کی خدمت میں ایک دستر خوان پیش کیا گیا جس پر روٹی اور گوہ کا گوشت رکھا ہوا تھا، نبی ﷺ نے جب اسے تناول فرمانے کا ارادہ کیا تو سیدہ میمونہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ ﷺ ! یہ گوہ کا گوشت ہے، یہ سنتے ہی نبی ﷺ نے اپنا ہاتھ روک لیا اور فرمایا: ”یہ ایسا گوشت ہے جو میں نہیں کھاتا، البتہ تم کھا لو“، چنانچہ سیدنا فضل، سیدنا خالد بن ولید رضی اللہ عنہما اور ان کے ساتھ موجود خاتون نے اسے کھا لیا اور سیدہ میمونہ رضی اللہ عنہا فرمانے لگیں کہ جو کھانا نبی ﷺ نہیں کھاتے میں بھی نہیں کھاتی۔
Yazid bin Asam rahmatullah alaih kahte hain ki ek martaba maine Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas razi Allah anhuma ki khidmat mein hazir ho kar arz kiya ki falan aadmi ki shadi hui, usne hamari dawat ki, usne dastarkhwan par terah adad goh la kar pesh kin, sham ka waqt tha, kisi ne use khaya aur kisi ne ijtinab kiya, unke sathi barh chrh kar bolne lage hatta ki baaz logon ne yahan tak kah diya ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya hai ki "main ise khata hun aur na hi haram karta hun, na hi iska hukm deta hun aur na mamanat karta hun", is par Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas razi Allah anhuma kahne lage ki tum ne ghalat kaha, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko to bheja hi is liye gaya tha ki halal o haram ki tayin kar den. Phir farmaya: Darasal Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki khidmat mein ek dastarkhwan pesh kiya gaya jis par roti aur goh ka gosht rakha hua tha, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne jab use tanawul farmane ka irada kiya to Sayyida Maymunah razi Allah anha ne arz kiya: Ya Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)! yeh goh ka gosht hai, yeh sunte hi Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne apna hath rok liya aur farmaya: "yeh aisa gosht hai jo main nahin khata, albatta tum kha lo", chunanche Sayyiduna Fazal, Sayyiduna Khalid bin Waleed razi Allah anhuma aur unke sath maujood khatun ne use kha liya aur Sayyida Maymunah razi Allah anha farmane lagin ki jo khana Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) nahin khate main bhi nahin khati.
حَدَّثَنَا أَسْبَاطٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ يَعْنِي الشَّيْبَانِيَّ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْأَصَمِّ ، قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، فَقُلْتُ: تَزَوَّجَ فُلَانٌ، فَقَرَّبَ إِلَيْنَا طَعَامًا، فَأَكَلْنَا، ثُمَّ قَرَّبَ إِلَيْنَا ثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ ضَبًّا، فَبَيْنَ آكِلٍ وَتَارِكٍ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُ مَنْ عِنْدَ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: لَا آكُلُهُ، وَلَا أُحَرِّمُهُ، وَلَا آمُرُ بِهِ، وَلَا أَنْهَى عَنْهُ. فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : بِئْسَ مَا تَقُولُونَ، مَا بُعِثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَّا مُحِلًّا وَمُحَرِّمًا، قُرِّبَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَمَدَّ يَدَهُ، لِيَأْكُلَ مِنْهُ، فَقَالَتْ مَيْمُونَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنَّهُ لَحْمُ ضَبٍّ. فَكَفَّ يَدَهُ، وَقَالَ:" هَذَا لَحْمٌ لَمْ آكُلْهُ قَطُّ، فَكُلُوا" فَأَكَلَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَخَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ وَامْرَأَةٌ كَانَتْ مَعَهُمْ، وَقَالَتْ مَيْمُونَةُ: لَا آكُلُ مِمَّا لَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
