The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 3060
It is narrated by Sayyidna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once, in the last part of the night, I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and stood behind him to offer prayer. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) held my hand, pulled me, and made me stand beside him. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned towards prayer, I again went back. After finishing the prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “What is the matter? I make you stand beside me, and you step back?” I said: “O Messenger of Allah! Is it appropriate for anyone to stand shoulder to shoulder with you in prayer, while you are the Messenger of Allah, and Allah has bestowed upon you a high rank and status?” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was amazed by this and prayed for the increase of my knowledge and understanding. After that, I saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) lay down and slept until I could hear the sound of his snoring. After a while, Sayyidna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came and announced the prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up to lead the prayer without performing a new ablution.

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ میں رات کے آخری حصے میں نبی ﷺ کے پاس آیا اور ان کے پیچھے کھڑا ہو کر نماز پڑھنے لگا، انہوں نے میرا ہاتھ پکڑ کر کھینچا اور مجھے اپنے برابر کر لیا، نبی ﷺ جب نماز کی طرف متوجہ ہوئے تو میں پھر پیچھے ہوگیا، نبی ﷺ نے نماز سے فارغ ہو کر فرمایا: ”کیا بات ہے بھئی! میں تمہیں اپنے برابر کرتا ہوں اور تم پیچھے ہٹ جاتے ہو؟“ میں نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! کیا کسی آدمی کے لئے آپ کے برابر کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھنا مناسب ہے جبکہ آپ اللہ کے رسول ہیں اور اللہ نے آپ کو بہت کچھ مقام و مرتبہ دے رکھا ہے؟ نبی ﷺ کو اس پر تعجب ہوا اور میرے لئے علم و فہم میں اضافے کی دعا فرمائی۔ اس کے بعد میں نے دیکھا کہ نبی ﷺ لیٹ کر سو گئے، یہاں تک کہ آپ ﷺ کے خراٹوں کی آواز آنے لگی، تھوڑی دیر بعد سیدنا بلال رضی اللہ عنہ نے آ کر نماز کی اطلاع دی، تو آپ ﷺ نماز پڑھانے کے لئے کھڑے ہوگئے اور تازہ وضو نہیں کیا۔
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki ek martaba main raat ke aakhri hisse mein Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke pas aaya aur unke peeche khara ho kar namaz parhne laga, unhon ne mera hath pakar kar khencha aur mujhe apne barabar kar liya, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) jab namaz ki taraf mutawajih hue to main phir peeche hogaya, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne namaz se farigh ho kar farmaya: ”Kya baat hai bhai! Main tumhen apne barabar karta hun aur tum peeche hat jate ho?“ Main ne arz kiya: Ya Rasul Allah! Kya kisi aadmi ke liye aap ke barabar khare ho kar namaz parhna munasib hai jabke aap Allah ke Rasul hain aur Allah ne aap ko bahut kuchh makam o martaba de rakha hai? Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko is par ta'ajjub hua aur mere liye ilm o fahm mein izafe ki dua farmai. Iske baad main ne dekha ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) lait kar so gaye, yahan tak ki aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke kharaton ki aawaz aane lagi, thodi der baad Sayyidna Bilal (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne aa kar namaz ki ittila di, to aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) namaz parhane ke liye khare hogaye aur taza wazu nahin kiya.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ أَبِي صَغِيرَةَ أَبُو يُونُسَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، أَنَّ كُرَيْبًا أخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ، فَصَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَهُ، فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِي، فَجَرَّنِي، فَجَعَلَنِي حِذَاءَهُ، فَلَمَّا أَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى صَلَاتِهِ، خَنَسْتُ، فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ، قَالَ لِي:" مَا شَأْنِي أَجْعَلُكَ حِذَائِي فَتَخْنِسُ؟"، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَوَيَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ حِذَاءَكَ، وَأَنْتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ الَّذِي أَعْطَاكَ اللَّهُ؟ قَالَ: فَأَعْجَبْتُهُ، فَدَعَا اللَّهَ لِي أَنْ يَزِيدَنِي عِلْمًا وَفَهْمًا، قَالَ: ثُمَّ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَامَ حَتَّى سَمِعْتُهُ يَنْفُخُ، ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ بِلَالٌ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، الصَّلَاةَ. فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى، مَا أَعَادَ وُضُوءًا.
