The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 3112
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived in Madinah, he saw the Jews fasting on the tenth of Muharram. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked them, "Is there any particular reason why you fast on this day?" They replied, "This is a great and momentous day. On this day, Allah granted victory to the Children of Israel over their enemy, and Prophet Musa (Moses), peace be upon him, fasted on this day." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "I have more right to Moses than you." So, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) fasted on that day and commanded his companions (may Allah be pleased with them) to fast on this day as well.

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ جب مدینہ منورہ تشریف لائے تو یہودیوں کو دس محرم کا روزہ رکھتے ہوئے دیکھا، نبی ﷺ نے ان سے پوچھا کہ ”اس دن جو تم روزہ رکھتے ہو، اس کی کوئی خاص وجہ ہے؟“ انہوں نے جواب دیا کہ یہ بڑا عظیم دن ہے، اس دن اللہ نے بنی اسرائیل کو ان کے دشمن سے نجات عطا فرمائی تھی، جس پر حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے روزہ رکھا تھا، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”تمہاری نسبت موسیٰ کا مجھ پر زیادہ حق بنتا ہے“، چنانچہ نبی ﷺ نے خود بھی روزہ رکھا اور صحابہ رضی اللہ عنہم کو بھی اس دن کا روزہ رکھنے کا حکم دیا۔
Sayyedna Ibn Abbas Raziallaho Anhuma se marvi hai ki Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam jab Madina Munawwara tashreef laye to yahudio ko das muharram ka roza rakhte huye dekha, Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ne un se poocha ki "is din jo tum roza rakhte ho, is ki koi khas wajah hai?" Unhone jawab diya ki yeh bada azeem din hai, is din Allah ne Bani Israel ko un ke dushman se nijaat ata farmai thi, jis par Hazrat Musa Alaihissalam ne roza rakha tha, Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ne farmaya: "tumhari nisbat Musa ka mujh par zyada haq banta hai", chunanche Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ne khud bhi roza rakha aur sahaba raziallaho anhum ko bhi is din ka roza rakhne ka hukum diya.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ، فَوَجَدَ يَهُودَ يَصُومُونَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ، فَقَالَ:" مَا هَذَا؟" فَقَالُوا: هَذَا يَوْمٌ عَظِيمٌ، يَوْمَ نَجَّى اللَّهُ مُوسَى، وَأَغْرَقَ آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ، فَصَامَهُ مُوسَى شُكْرًا. قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" فَإِنِّي أَوْلَى بِمُوسَى، وَأَحَقُّ بِصِيَامِهِ" فَصَامَهُ، وَأَمَر بِصِيَامِهِ.
