The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 3164
Narrated by Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived in Madinah, he saw the Jews fasting on the tenth of Muharram. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked them, "Is there any particular reason for you to fast on this day?" They replied, "This is a great day, on this day Allah granted victory to the children of Israel over their enemy, and Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) fasted on this day." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to his companions (May Allah be pleased with them), "You have more right over Moses (peace be upon him) than them, so you should also fast."

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ جب مدینہ منورہ تشریف لائے تو یہودیوں کو دس محرم کا روزہ رکھتے ہوئے دیکھا، نبی ﷺ نے ان سے پوچھا کہ ”اس دن جو تم روزہ رکھتے ہو، اس کی کوئی خاص وجہ ہے؟“ انہوں نے جواب دیا کہ یہ بڑا اچھا دن ہے، اس دن اللہ نے بنی اسرائیل کو ان کے دشمن سے نجات عطا فرمائی تھی، جس پر حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے روزہ رکھا تھا، نبی ﷺ نے اپنے صحابہ رضی اللہ عنہم سے فرمایا: ”تم پر حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام کا ان سے زیادہ حق بنتا ہے، لہذا تم بھی روزہ رکھو۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas Raziallahu Anhuma se marvi hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) jab Madina Munawwara tashreef laaye to yahudiyon ko dus muharram ka roza rakhte huye dekha, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne unse poocha ki "Is din jo tum roza rakhte ho, iski koi khas wajah hai?" Unhon ne jawab diya ki yah bada achcha din hai, is din Allah ne Bani Israel ko unke dushman se nijaat ata farmaayi thi, jis par Hazrat Musa Alaihissalam ne roza rakha tha, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne apne sahaba raziallahu anhum se farmaya: "Tum par Hazrat Musa Alaihissalam ka inse zyada haq banta hai, lihaza tum bhi roza rakho."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ، فَإِذَا الْيَهُودُ قَدْ صَامُوا يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ، فَسَأَلَهُمْ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالُوا: هَذَا الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي ظَهَرَ فِيهِ مُوسَى عَلَى فِرْعَوْنَ. فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ:" أَنْتُمْ أَوْلَى بِمُوسَى مِنْهُمْ، فَصُومُوهُ".
