The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 3187
Sayyiduna Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Kharijites revolted and separated themselves, I said to them, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made a peace treaty with the polytheists at Hudaybiyyah. He said to Sayyiduna 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), 'O 'Ali, write: This is the agreement of peace between Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah...' The polytheists of Quraysh said, 'If we considered you to be the Messenger of Allah, we would have never fought you.' Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, 'O 'Ali, erase it. O Allah! You know that I am Your Messenger. O 'Ali, erase it and write: This is the agreement that Muhammad, son of Abdullah, has made...' I said to the Kharijites, 'By Allah! The Messenger of Allah was better than Sayyiduna 'Ali, and he erased his name. But by erasing it from the writing, his Prophethood did not vanish. Have I not refuted your argument?' They said, 'Yes'."

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما فرماتے ہیں کہ جب حروریہ فرقے نے خروج کیا تو وہ سب سے کٹ گئے، میں نے ان سے کہا کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے حدیبیہ کے مقام پر مشرکین سے صلح کی تو سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ سے فرمایا: ”علی! لکھو، یہ وہ معاہدہ ہے، جس کے مطابق محمد رسول اللہ ﷺ نے صلح کی ہے۔“ مشرکین قریش کہنے لگے کہ اگر ہم آپ کو اللہ کا رسول سمجھتے تو کبھی آپ سے قتال نہ کرتے، نبی ﷺ نے یہ سن کر فرمایا: ”علی! اسے مٹا دو، اے اللہ! تو جانتا ہے کہ میں تیرا رسول ہوں، علی! اسے مٹا دو اور یہ لکھو کہ یہ وہ معاہدہ ہے جو محمد بن عبداللہ نے کیا ہے۔“ میں نے خوارج سے کہا: واللہ! اللہ کے رسول سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ سے بہتر تھے، اور انہوں نے اپنا نام مٹا دیا تھا لیکن تحریر سے اسے مٹا دینے کی وجہ سے وہ نبوت سے ہی نہیں چلے گئے تھے، کیا میں اس سے نکل آیا؟ لوگوں نے کہا: جی ہاں!
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a farmate hain ki jab hururiya firqe ne khurooj kiya to wo sab se kat gaye, maine un se kaha ki Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne Hudaibiya ke muqam par mushrikeen se sulh ki to Sayyidna Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se farmaya: ”Ali! likho, ye wo muahida hai, jis ke mutabiq Muhammad Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne sulh ki hai.“ Mushrikeen Quresh kehne lage ki agar hum aap ko Allah ka Rasul samajhte to kabhi aap se qital na karte, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne ye sun kar farmaya: ”Ali! ise mita do, aye Allah! tu janta hai ki main tera Rasul hun, Ali! ise mita do aur ye likho ki ye wo muahida hai jo Muhammad bin Abdullah ne kiya hai.“ Maine khwarij se kaha: Wallahi! Allah ke Rasul Sayyidna Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se behtar the, aur unhon ne apna naam mita diya tha lekin tahrir se ise mita dene ki wajah se wo nabuwat se hi nahin chale gaye the, kya main is se nikal aaya? Logon ne kaha: ji haan!.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو زُمَيْلٍ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: لَمَّا خَرَجَتْ الْحَرُورِيَّةُ، اعْتَزَلُوا، فَقُلْتُ لَهُمْ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ صَالَحَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ، فَقَالَ لِعَلِيٍّ:" اكْتُبْ يَا عَلِيُّ: هَذَا مَا صَالَحَ عَلَيْهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" قَالُوا: لَوْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ مَا قَاتَلْنَاكَ! فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" امْحُ يَا عَلِيُّ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي رَسُولُكَ، امْحُ يَا عَلِيُّ وَاكْتُبْ: هَذَا مَا صَالَحَ عَلَيْهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ" وَاللَّهِ لَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ عَلِيٍّ، وَقَدْ مَحَا نَفْسَهُ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ مَحْوُهُ ذَلِكَ يُمْحَاهُ مِنَ النُّبُوَّةِ، أَخَرَجْتُ مِنْ هَذِهِ؟ قَالُوا: نَعَمْ.
