The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 3466
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) delayed the Isha prayer so much that people slept and woke up twice. Sayyidina Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came and submitted: "O Messenger of Allah! The prayer." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came out, and the scene is still before my eyes, that drops of water were dripping from the head of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) placed his hand on his head and said: "If I were not afraid of burdening my Ummah, I would have ordered them to pray Isha at this time."

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے ایک مرتبہ عشا کی نماز کو اتنا مؤخر کیا کہ لوگ دو مرتبہ سوئے اور جاگے، سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے آ کر عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ ﷺ ! نماز، اس پر نبی ﷺ باہر تشریف لائے، وہ منظر اب بھی میری نگاہوں کے سامنے ہے کہ نبی ﷺ کے سر سے پانی کے قطرے ٹپک رہے ہیں، نبی ﷺ نے اپنا ہاتھ سر پر رکھا اور فرمایا کہ ”اگر مجھے اپنی امت پر مشقت کا اندیشہ نہ ہوتا تو میں انہیں یہ حکم دیتا کہ وہ عشا کی نماز اسی وقت پڑھا کریں۔“
Sayyida Ibne Abbas Raziallahu Anhuma se marvi hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne aik martaba Isha ki namaz ko itna moakhir kiya ki log do martaba soye aur jage, Sayyida Umar Raziallahu Anhu ne aa kar arz kiya: Ya Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)! Namaz, iss par Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) bahar tashreef laaye, woh manzar ab bhi meri nigahon ke samne hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke sar se pani ke qatre tappak rahe hain, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne apna hath sar par rakha aur farmaya ki "Agar mujhe apni ummat par mushkil ka andesha na hota to main unhen ye hukm deta ki woh Isha ki namaz isi waqt parha karein.".
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ وَابْنُ بَكْرٍ ، قَالَا: أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: لِعَطَاءٍ أَيُّ حِينٍ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْكَ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ الْعِشَاءَ إِمَامًا أَوْ خِلْوًا؟، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، يَقُولُ: أَعْتَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةً بِالْعِشَاءِ، حَتَّى رَقَدَ النَّاسُ وَاسْتَيْقَظُوا، وَرَقَدُوا وَاسْتَيْقَظُوا، فَقَامَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، فَقَالَ: الصَّلَاةَ. قَالَ عَطَاءٌ: قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ فَخَرَجَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ الْآنَ، يَقْطُرُ رَأْسُهُ مَاءً، وَاضِعٌ يَدَهُ عَلَى شَقِّ رَأْسِهِ، فَقَالَ:" لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي، لَأَمَرْتُهُمْ أَنْ يُصَلُّوهَا كَذَلِكَ".
