Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 3490
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once I visited my aunt, Umm al-Mu'minin Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). I spent the night at her house. I knew that according to the Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) schedule, it was her turn for companionship that night. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) offered the Isha prayer and entered the house. He lay down on a leather pillow filled with date palm fiber. I also came and lay down on a corner of the same pillow. After a while, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) woke up. He saw that it was still quite early in the night, so he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came back to bed, recited some glorifications of Allah and went back to sleep. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) woke up again, one or two-thirds of the night had passed. So now, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) got up, relieved himself, and came to a water bag hanging on a pillar. He rinsed his mouth three times, poured water into his nose three times, washed his face three times, and washed both arms three times each. Then he wiped his head and ears once, washed both his feet three times each, and stood up for prayer in his prayer place. I also stood up and did what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had done, and came and stood to the left of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). My intention was to join the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not do anything for a while. When he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) realized that I intended to join him in prayer, he extended his right hand, took hold of my ear, turned me around and placed me on his right side. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) continued to pray two rak'ahs at a time until he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) felt the late hours of the night approaching. When he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) felt that the time for Fajr was near, he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed six rak'ahs and made the intention for Witr in the seventh. When it became bright, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed two rak'ahs and lay down and slept until I heard the sound of his snoring. After a while, Sayyidina Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came and announced the prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came out and led the prayer in the same way without even touching the water. The narrator says that I asked Sa'id bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him), "Is this some good deed?" Sa'id (may Allah have mercy on him) replied, "By Allah! I also asked Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him both) the same question. He had said: Beware! This ruling is not for you and your companions. This ruling is specifically for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) because he was protected even in his sleep."

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ میں اپنی خالہ ام المومنین سیدہ میمونہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے یہاں آیا، رات ان ہی کے یہاں گزاری، مجھے پتہ چلا کہ آج رات نبی ﷺ کی تقسیم کے مطابق شب باشی کی باری ان کی تھی، نبی ﷺ عشا کی نماز پڑھ کر گھر میں داخل ہوئے اور چمڑے کے بنے ہوئے اس تکیے پر سر رکھ کر لیٹ گئے جس میں کھجور کے درخت کی چھال بھری ہوئی تھی، میں نے بھی آ کر اس تکیے کے ایک کونے پر سر رکھ دیا، تھوڑی دیر بعد نبی ﷺ بیدار ہوئے، دیکھا تو ابھی رات کافی باقی تھی چنانچہ آپ ﷺ نے دوبارہ بستر پر واپس آ کر تسبیح و تکبیر کہی اور سو گئے۔ دوبارہ جب نبی ﷺ بیدار ہوئے تو رات کا ایک یا دو تہائی حصہ بیت چکا تھا، لہذا اب نبی ﷺ کھڑے ہو گئے، قضاء حاجت کی اور ستون خانے میں لٹکی ہوئی مشک کے پاس آئے جس میں پانی تھا، اس سے تین مرتبہ کلی کی، تین مرتبہ ناک میں پانی ڈالا، تین مرتبہ چہرہ دھویا اور تین تین مرتبہ دونوں بازو دھوئے، پھر سر اور کانوں کا ایک مرتبہ مسح کیا، پھر اپنے دونوں پاؤں تین تین مرتبہ دھوئے، اور اپنی جائے نماز پر جا کر کھڑے ہو گئے، میں نے بھی کھڑے ہو کر وہی کچھ کیا جو نبی ﷺ نے کیا تھا، اور آ کر نبی ﷺ کے بائیں جانب کھڑا ہو گیا، ارادہ یہ تھا کہ نبی ﷺ کی نماز میں شریک ہو جاؤں گا، نبی ﷺ نے تھوڑی دیر تو کچھ نہیں کیا، جب آپ ﷺ سمجھ گئے کہ میں ان ہی کی نماز میں شرکت کا ارادہ رکھتا ہوں تو اپنا داہنا ہاتھ بڑھا کر میرا کان پکڑا اور مجھے گھما کر اپنی دائیں جانب کر لیا۔ نبی ﷺ اس وقت تک دو دو رکعتیں پڑھتے رہے جب تک آپ ﷺ کو رات کا احساس باقی رہا، جب آپ ﷺ نے محسوس کیا کہ فجر کا وقت قریب آ گیا ہے تو آپ ﷺ نے چھ رکعتیں پڑھیں اور ساتویں میں وتر کی نیت کر لی، جب روشنی ہو گئی تو نبی ﷺ دو رکعتیں پڑھ کر لیٹ رہے اور سو گئے یہاں تک کہ میں نے آپ ﷺ کے خراٹوں کی آواز سنی، تھوڑی دیر بعد سیدنا بلال رضی اللہ عنہ حاضر ہوئے اور نماز کی اطلاع دی، نبی ﷺ نے باہر تشریف لا کر اسی طرح نماز پڑھا دی اور پانی کو چھوا تک نہیں۔ راوی کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے حضرت سعید بن جبیر رحمہ اللہ سے پوچھا کہ یہ کوئی اچھا کام ہے؟ حضرت سعید رحمہ اللہ نے جواب دیا کہ واللہ! میں نے بھی یہی بات سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے پوچھی تھی تو انہوں نے فرمایا تھا: خبردار! یہ حکم تمہارا اور تمہارے ساتھیوں کا نہیں ہے، یہ حکم نبی ﷺ کے ساتھ خاص ہے کیونکہ سوتے میں بھی ان کی حفاظت کی جاتی تھی۔
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki ek martaba main apni khala Umm-ul-Momineen Sayyida Maimoona ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) ke yahan aaya, raat in hi ke yahan guzari, mujhe pata chala ki aaj raat Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki taqseem ke mutabiq shab bashi ki baari in ki thi, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) isha ki namaz parh kar ghar mein dakhil hue aur chamare ke bane hue us takiya par sar rakh kar lait gaye jis mein khajoor ke darakht ki chhaal bhari hui thi, maine bhi aa kar is takiya ke ek kone par sar rakh diya, thori der baad Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) bedaar hue, dekha to abhi raat kaafi baqi thi chunancha Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne dobara bistar par wapas aa kar tasbeeh o takbeer kahi aur so gaye. Dobara jab Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) bedaar hue to raat ka ek ya do tihai hissa bait chuka tha, lihaza ab Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) kharay ho gaye, qaza hajat ki aur satoon khanay mein latki hui mashak ke pass aaye jis mein pani tha, is se teen martaba kuli ki, teen martaba naak mein pani dala, teen martaba chehra dhoya aur teen teen martaba donon bazu dhoye, phir sar aur kanon ka ek martaba masah kiya, phir apne donon paaon teen teen martaba dhoye, aur apni jaye namaz par ja kar khade ho gaye, maine bhi khade ho kar wahi kuch kiya jo Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne kiya tha, aur aa kar Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke bayein janib khada ho gaya, irada yeh tha ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki namaz mein shareek ho jaun ga, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne thori der to kuch nahin kiya, jab Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) samjhe ki main in hi ki namaz mein shirkat ka irada rakhta hun to apna dahina haath badha kar mera kaan pakda aur mujhe ghuma kar apni dayein janib kar liya. Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) us waqt tak do do rakatayn parhte rahe jab tak Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko raat ka ehsaas baqi raha, jab Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne mehsoos kiya ki fajar ka waqt qareeb aa gaya hai to Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne chhe rakatayn parhin aur saatwein mein witr ki niyyat kar li, jab roshni hui to Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) do rakatayn parh kar lait rahe aur so gaye yahan tak ki maine Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke kharaton ki aawaz suni, thori der baad Sayyidna Bilal (رضي الله تعالى عنه) hazir hue aur namaz ki ittila di, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne bahar tashreef la kar isi tarah namaz parha di aur pani ko chhua tak nahin. Ravi kahte hain ki maine Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair Rahmatullah Alaih se puchha ki yeh koi achha kaam hai? Hazrat Saeed Rahmatullah Alaih ne jawab diya ki Wallahi! maine bhi yahi baat Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se puchhi thi to unhon ne farmaya tha: Khabar daar! yeh hukum tumhara aur tumhare saathiyon ka nahin hai, yeh hukum Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke saath khaas hai kyunki sote mein bhi in ki hifazat ki jati thi.
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْمَخْزُومِيِّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ خَالَتِي مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتَ الْحَارِثِ، فَبِتُّ عِنْدَهَا، فَوَجَدْتُ لَيْلَتَهَا تِلْكَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،" فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْعِشَاءَ، ثُمَّ دَخَلَ بَيْتَهُ، فَوَضَعَ رَأْسَهُ عَلَى وِسَادَةٍ مِنْ أَدَمٍ حَشْوُهَا لِيفٌ، فَجِئْتُ فَوَضَعْتُ رَأْسِي عَلَى نَاحِيَةٍ مِنْهَا، فَاسْتَيْقَظَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَنَظَرَ فَإِذَا عَلَيْهِ لَيْلٌ، فعاد فَسَبَّحَ وَكَبَّرَ حَتَّى نَامَ، ثُمَّ اسْتَيْقَظَ وَقَدْ ذَهَبَ شَطْرُ اللَّيْلِ، أَوْ قَالَ: ثُلُثَاهُ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ إِلَى قِرْبَةٍ عَلَى شَجْبٍ فِيهَا مَاءٌ، فَمَضْمَضَ ثَلَاثًا، وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلَاثًا، وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلَاثًا، وَذِرَاعَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا ثَلَاثًا، وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَأُذُنَيْهِ مّرةً، ثُمَّ غَسَلَ قَدَمَيْهِ، قَالَ يَزِيدُ: حَسِبْتُهُ قَالَ: ثَلَاثًا ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ أَتَى مُصَلَّاهُ، فَقُمْتُ وَصَنَعْتُ كَمَا صَنَعَ، ثُمَّ جِئْتُ فَقُمْتُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ، وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ بِصَلَاتِهِ، فَأَمْهَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، حَتَّى إِذَا عَرَفَ أَنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ بِصَلَاتِهِ، لَفَتَ يَمِينَهُ فَأَخَذَ بِأُذُنِي، فَأَدَارَنِي حَتَّى أَقَامَنِي عَنْ يَمِينِهِ، فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا رَأَى أَنَّ عَلَيْهِ لَيْلًا رَكْعَتَيْنِ، فَلَمَّا ظَنَّ أَنَّ الْفَجْرَ قَدْ دَنَا، قَامَ فَصَلَّى سِتَّ رَكَعَاتٍ، أَوْتَرَ بِالسَّابِعَةِ، حَتَّى إِذَا أَضَاءَ الْفَجْرُ، قَامَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ وَضَعَ جَنْبَهُ فَنَامَ، حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ فَخِيخَهُ، ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ بِلَالٌ، فَآذَنَهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ، فَخَرَجَ فَصَلَّى وَمَا مَسَّ مَاءً". فَقُلْتُ لِسَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ: مَا أَحْسَنَ هَذَا! فَقَالَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ: أَمَا وَاللَّهِ، لَقَدْ قُلْتُ ذَاكَ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فَقَالَ: مَهْ، إِنَّهَا لَيْسَتْ لَكَ وَلَا لِأَصْحَابِكَ، إِنَّهَا لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، إِنَّهُ كَانَ يَحْفَظُ.
