The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 3492
Abu Al-Tafayl reported that I asked Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about his people's belief that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed Sa'i between Safa and Marwah while riding a camel, and whether this was Sunnah. Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied, "They are partially correct and partially incorrect." I asked, "What is correct and what is incorrect?" He replied, "It is correct that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed Sa'i while riding a camel, but it is incorrect to consider it Sunnah. The reality is that the people would not move away from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), nor could they be moved away. Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed Sa'i while riding a camel. If he had not been riding, he would have preferred to walk."

ابوالطفیل کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے ایک مرتبہ سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے عرض کیا کہ آپ کی قوم کا خیال ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے صفا مروہ کے درمیان سعی اونٹ پر بیٹھ کر کی ہے اور یہ سنت ہے؟ سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے فرمایا: یہ لوگ کچھ صحیح اور کچھ غلط کہتے ہیں، میں نے عرض کیا کہ صحیح کیا ہے اور غلط کیا ہے؟ فرمایا: یہ بات تو صحیح ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے اونٹ پر بیٹھ کر سعی کی ہے، لیکن اسے سنت قرار دینا غلط ہے، اصل میں لوگ نبی ﷺ کے پاس سے ہٹتے نہیں تھے اور نہ ہی انہیں ہٹایا جا سکتا تھا، اس لئے نبی ﷺ نے اونٹ پر بیٹھ کر سعی کی، اگر وہ سواری پر نہ ہوتے تو انہیں پیدل چلنا ہی زیادہ محبوب ہوتا۔
Abu altufail kahte hain ke maine ek martaba sayyidna ibn abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se arz kiya ke aap ki qaum ka khayal hai ke nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne safa marwah ke darmiyaan sai ont par baith kar ki hai aur yeh sunnat hai sayyidna ibn abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ne farmaya yeh log kuch sahi aur kuch ghalat kahte hain maine arz kiya ke sahi kya hai aur ghalat kya hai farmaya yeh baat to sahi hai ke nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne ont par baith kar sai ki hai lekin ise sunnat qarar dena ghalat hai asl mein log nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke pass se hatte nahin the aur na hi unhen hataya ja sakta tha is liye nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne ont par baith kar sai ki agar woh sawari par na hote to unhen paidal chalna hi ziada mahboob hota
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ حَدِّثْنِي عَنِ الرُّكُوبِ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ، فَإِنَّ قَوْمَكَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهَا سُنَّةٌ. فَقَالَ:" صَدَقُوا وَكَذَبُوا"، قُلْتُ: صَدَقُوا وَكَذَبُوا. مَاذَا؟، قَالَ:" قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَكَّةَ، فَخَرَجُوا حَتَّى خَرَجَتْ الْعَوَاتِقُ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يُضْرَبُ عِنْدَهُ أَحَدٌ، فَرَكِبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَطَافَ وَهُوَ رَاكِبٌ، وَلَوْ نَزَلَ لَكَانَ الْمَشْيُ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ".
