Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 4199
It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I prayed with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) at night. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood in prayer for so long that I intended to do something wrong in my heart. His companions asked, "What did you intend to do?" I said, "I intended to sit down and leave the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) standing."

سیدنا ابن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ میں نے رات کے وقت نبی ﷺ کے ساتھ نماز پڑھی، نبی ﷺ نے اتنا طویل قیام کیا کہ میں اپنے دل میں برا ارادہ کرنے لگا، ان کے شاگرد کہتے ہیں کہ ہم نے پوچھا: آپ نے کیا ارادہ کیا تھا؟ فرمایا کہ میں بیٹھ جاؤں اور نبی ﷺ کو کھڑا چھوڑ دوں۔
Sayyidna Ibn Masood Raziallahu Anhu se marvi hai ki ek martaba maine raat ke waqt Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke sath namaz parhi, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne itna tawil qayam kiya ki main apne dil mein bura irada karne laga, unke shagird kahte hain ki humne pucha: Aap ne kya irada kiya tha? Farmaya ki main baith jaun aur Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko khara chhor dun.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ:" صَلَّيْتُ، وَقُمْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ قَائِمًا حَتَّى هَمَمْتُ بِأَمْرِ سَوْءٍ! قَالَ: قُلْنَا: مَا هَمَمْتَ؟ قَالَ: هَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَجْلِسَ وَأَدَعَهُ".
