Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 4237
Narrated by Ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) that once, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) offered the Zuhr prayer and prayed five rak'ahs instead of four. Someone asked, "Has there been an increase in the prayer?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "No, what happened?" The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) submitted, "You have prayed five rak'ahs." Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned back on his feet (after finishing the prayer) and offered two prostrations of forgetfulness (sajdah sahw).

سیدنا ابن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ نے ظہر کی نماز پڑھائی، اور اس کی پانچ رکعتیں پڑھا دیں، کسی نے پوچھا: کیا نماز میں اضافہ ہوگیا ہے؟ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”نہیں، کیا ہوا؟“ صحابہ رضی اللہ عنہم نے عرض کیا: آپ نے تو پانچ رکعتیں پڑھائی ہیں، یہ سن کر نبی ﷺ نے اپنے پاؤں موڑے اور سلام پھیر کر سہو کے دو سجدے کر لئے۔
Sayyidna Ibn Masood Raziallahu Anhu se marvi hai ki ek martaba Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne Zuhar ki namaz parhayi, aur iski paanch rakatain parha di. Kisi ne poocha: kya namaz mein izafa hogaya hai? Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: "Nahi, kya hua?" Sahaba Raziallahu Anhum ne arz kiya: Aap ne to paanch rakatain parhayi hain, yeh sunkar Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne apne paon more aur salam phir kar sahu ke do sajde kar liye.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ خَمْسًا، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: زِيدَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ؟! قَالَ" وَمَا ذَاكَ؟" قَالُوا: صَلَّيْتَ خَمْسًا، قَالَ:" فَثَنَى رِجْلَهُ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ بَعْدَمَا سَلَّمَ".
