Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 4571
Narrated by Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that once a man asked the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, about the night prayer. So the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “Pray two rak'ahs at a time, and when you are afraid of the dawn approaching, add one rak'ah to the two as Witr.”

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ ایک شخص نے نبی کریم ﷺ سے رات کی نماز کے متعلق پوچھا تو نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”تم دو دو رکعت کر کے نماز پڑھا کرو اور جب صبح ہو جانے کا اندیشہ ہو تو ان دو کے ساتھ بطور وتر کے ایک رکعت اور ملا لو۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki ek martaba ek shakhs ne Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se raat ki namaz ke mutalliq poocha to Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: "Tum do do rakat kar ke namaz parha karo aur jab subah ho jaane ka andesha ho to in do ke sath ba-taur witr ke ek rakat aur mila lo."
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَبِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُئِلَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ؟ فَقَالَ:" مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، فَإِذَا خِفْتَ الصُّبْحَ، فَأَوْتِرْ بِوَاحِدَةٍ".
