Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 4987
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The night prayer should be offered in units of two. When the dawn approaches, offer one more rak'ah and this will complete your Witr prayer."

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”رات کی نماز دو دو رکعت کر کے پڑھی جاتی ہے جب طلوع فجر ہونے لگے تو ان کے ساتھ ایک رکعت اور ملا کر وتر پڑھ لو۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: "Raat ki namaz do do rakat kar ke parha jati hai jab tulue fajr hone lage to un ke sath ek rakat aur mila kar witr parh lo."
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ:" صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، فَإِذَا خَشِيتَ الْفَجْرَ، فَأَوْتِرْ بِوَاحِدَةٍ".
