Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 4989
Narrated by Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would command us to shorten the prayer and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) himself, while leading us in prayer, would recite only a few verses from Surah Saffat.

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ ہمیں مختصر نماز پڑھانے کا حکم دیتے تھے اور خود نبی ﷺ بھی ہماری امامت کرتے ہوئے سورت صفّٰت (کی چند آیات) پر اکتفاء فرماتے تھے۔

حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ، وَيَزِيدُ ، قَالَ: أخبرنا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ: إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" لَيَأْمُرُنَا بِالتَّخْفِيفِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ لَيَؤُمُّنَا بِالصَّافَّاتِ، قَالَ يَزِيدُ: فِي الصُّبْحِ".
