Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 5141
Ubaidullah bin Abdullah narrates that once I visited Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and requested, "Can you please tell me about the last illness of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)?" She replied, "Why not?" When the Prophet's health deteriorated, he (peace be upon him) asked, "Have the people prayed?" We said, "No, O Messenger of Allah!! They are waiting for you." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Put some water for me in the tub." We did so. The Prophet (peace be upon him) performed ablution (Ghusl) and as he (peace be upon him) stood up to proceed, he fainted. When he (peace be upon him) regained consciousness, he again asked, "Have the people prayed?" We gave the same reply as before. This happened thrice. Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that people were waiting in the Masjid for the Isha prayer. The Prophet (peace be upon him) sent a message to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the prayer. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was a very soft-hearted person. He said, "O Umar! You lead the prayer." They said, "You are more deserving." Thus, during those days, Sayyiduna Siddiq Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) continued leading the prayers. One day, the Prophet (peace be upon him) felt some relief in his illness, so he came out between two men at the time of Zuhr prayer, one of whom was Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). When Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) saw the Prophet (peace be upon him), he started stepping back. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gestured to him not to move back. He (peace be upon him) ordered the two companions who were with him, so they made the Prophet (peace be upon him) sit beside Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) continued leading the prayer while standing, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) started praying while sitting. Ubaidullah narrates that once after hearing this Hadith, I visited Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). I asked him, "Should I narrate to you the Hadith about the last illness of the Prophet (peace be upon him) that Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) told me?" He said, "Yes, narrate it." So I narrated the entire Hadith. He did not object to any part of it, except that he asked, "Did Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) tell you the name of the person who was with Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him)?" I said, "No." He said, "He was Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). May Allah's mercy be upon him."

عبیداللہ بن عبداللہ کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ میں سیدہ عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور عرض کیا کہ آپ مجھے نبی ﷺ کے مرض الوفات کے بارے کچھ بتائیں گی؟ فرمایا: کیوں نہیں، نبی ﷺ کی طبیعت جب بوجھل ہوئی، تو آپ ﷺ نے پوچھا: کیا لوگ نماز پڑھ چکے؟ ہم نے کہا: نہیں، یا رسول اللہ!! وہ آپ کا انتظار کر رہے ہیں، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”میرے لئے ایک ٹب میں پانی رکھو“، ہم نے ایسے ہی کیا، نبی ﷺ نے غسل کیا اور جانے کے لئے کھڑے ہونے ہی لگے تھے کہ آپ ﷺ پر بےہوشی طاری ہو گئی جب افاقہ ہوا تو پھر یہی سوال پوچھا کہ کیا لوگ نماز پڑھ چکے؟ ہم نے حسب سابق وہی جواب دیا اور تین مرتبہ اسی طرح ہوا۔ سیدہ عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ لوگ نماز عشاء کے لئے مسجد میں بیٹھے نبی ﷺ کا انتظار کر رہے تھے نبی ﷺ نے سیدنا ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس یہ پیغام بھیجا کہ آپ لوگوں کو نماز پڑھا دیں سیدنا ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ بڑے رقیق القلب آدمی تھے، کہنے لگے: اے عمر! آپ لوگوں کو نماز پڑھا دیں، انہوں نے کہا اس کے حقدار تو آپ ہی ہیں، چنانچہ ان دنوں میں سیدنا صدیق ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ لوگوں کو نماز پڑھاتے رہے۔ ایک دن نبی ﷺ کو اپنے مرض میں کچھ تخفیف محسوس ہوئی، تو آپ ﷺ ظہر کی نماز کے وقت دو آدمیوں کے درمیان نکلے، جن میں سے ایک سیدنا عباس رضی اللہ عنہ تھے، سیدنا ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ نے جب نبی ﷺ کو دیکھا تو پیچھے ہٹنے لگے۔ نبی ﷺ نے انہیں اشارہ کیا کہ پیچھے نہ ہٹیں اور اپنے ساتھ آنے والے دونوں صاحبوں کو حکم دیا، تو انہوں نے نبی ﷺ کو سیدنا ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ کے پہلو میں بٹھا دیا، سیدنا ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھتے رہے اور نبی ﷺ بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھنے لگے۔ عبیداللہ کہتے ہیں کہ اس حدیث کی سماعت کے بعد ایک مرتبہ میں سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کے یہاں آیا ہوا تھا، میں نے ان سے کہا کہ کیا میں آپ کے سامنے وہ حدیث پیش کروں جو نبی ﷺ کے مرض الوفات کے حوالے سے سیدہ عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے مجھے سنائی ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا ضرور بیان کرو، چنانچہ میں نے ان سے ساری حدیث بیان کر دی انہوں نے اس کے کسی حصے پر نکیر نہیں فرمائی، البتہ اتنا ضرور پوچھا کہ کیا سیدہ عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے آپ کو اس آدمی کا نام بتایا جو سیدنا عباس رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ تھا؟ میں نے کہا نہیں، انہوں نے فرمایا کہ وہ سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ تھے، اللہ کی رحمتیں ان پر نازل ہوں۔
Ubaidullah bin Abdullah kahte hain ke ek martaba main Sayyida Ayesha ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) ki khidmat mein hazir hua aur arz kiya ke aap mujhe Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke marz-e-wafaat ke bare kuch bataen gi? Farmaya: kyun nahi, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki tabiyat jab bojhal hui, to aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne pucha: kya log namaz parh chuke? Hum ne kaha: nahi, ya Rasulullah!! Woh aap ka intezar kar rahe hain, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: ”Mere liye ek tub mein pani rakho“, hum ne aise hi kiya, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne ghusl kiya aur jaane ke liye kharay hone hi lage the ke aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) par behoshhi tari ho gai jab afaqa hua to phir yahi sawal pucha ke kya log namaz parh chuke? Hum ne hasb-e-sabiq wohi jawab diya aur teen martaba isi tarah hua. Sayyida Ayesha ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) kahti hain ke log namaz isha ke liye masjid mein baithe Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ka intezar kar rahe the Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke paas yeh paigham bheja ke aap logon ko namaz parrha den Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (رضي الله تعالى عنه) bare raqiq-ul-qalb aadmi the, kahne lage: aye Umar! Aap logon ko namaz parrha den, unhon ne kaha is ke haqdar to aap hi hain, chunancha un dinon mein Sayyiduna Siddiq Abu Bakr (رضي الله تعالى عنه) logon ko namaz parrhate rahe. Ek din Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko apne marz mein kuch takhfif mehsoos hui, to aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) zohar ki namaz ke waqt do aadmiyon ke darmiyaan nikle, jin mein se ek Sayyiduna Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) the, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne jab Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko dekha to piche hatne lage. Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne unhen ishara kiya ke piche na haten aur apne sath aane wale donon sahibon ko hukm diya, to unhon ne Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke pahlu mein bitha diya, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kharay ho kar namaz parhte rahe aur Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) baith kar namaz parhne lage. Ubaidullah kahte hain ke is hadees ki samaat ke baad ek martaba mein Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ke yahan aaya hua tha, main ne un se kaha ke kya main aap ke samne woh hadees pesh karoon jo Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke marz-e-wafaat ke hawale se Sayyida Ayesha ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) ne mujhe sunaai hai? Unhon ne kaha zaroor bayan karo, chunancha main ne un se sari hadees bayan kar di unhon ne is ke kisi hisse par nakir nahi farmaai, albatta itna zaroor pucha ke kya Sayyida Ayesha ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) ne aap ko is aadmi ka naam bataya jo Sayyiduna Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke sath tha? Main ne kaha nahi, unhon ne farmaya ke woh Sayyiduna Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه) the, Allah ki rehmaten un par nazil hon.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ أَبِي عَائِشَةَ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ ، فَقُلْتُ: أَلَا تُحَدِّثِينِي عَنْ مَرَضِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَتْ: بَلَى، ثَقُلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ:" أَصَلَّى النَّاسُ؟" فَقُلْنَا: لَا، هُمْ يَنْتَظِرُونَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، قَالَ:" ضَعُوا لِي مَاءً فِي الْمِخْضَبِ"، فَفَعَلْنَا، فَاغْتَسَلَ، ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ لِيَنُوءَ فَأُغْمِيَ عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ أَفَاقَ، فَقَالَ" أَصَلَّى النَّاسُ؟" قُلْنَا: لَا، هُمْ يَنْتَظِرُونَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، قَالَ:" ضَعُوا لِي مَاءً فِي الْمِخْضَبِ"، فَذَهَبَ لِيَنُوءَ فَغُشِيَ عَلَيْهِ، قَالَتْ: وَالنَّاسُ عُكُوفٌ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ يَنْتَظِرُونَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِصَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ، فَأَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ بِأَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ، وَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَجُلًا رَقِيقًا، فَقَالَ: يَا عُمَرُ، صَلِّ بِالنَّاسِ، فَقَالَ: أَنْتَ أَحَقُّ بِذَلِكَ، فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ أَبُو بَكْرٍ تِلْكَ الْأَيَّامَ، ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَجَدَ خِفَّةً، فَخَرَجَ بَيْنَ رَجُلَيْنِ أَحَدُهُمَا الْعَبَّاسُ لِصَلَاةِ الظُّهْرِ، فَلَمَّا رَآهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ذَهَبَ لِيَتَأَخَّرَ، فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِ أَنْ لَا يَتَأَخَّرَ، وَأَمَرَهُمَا فَأَجْلَسَاهُ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ، فَجَعَلَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يُصَلِّي قَائِمًا وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي قَاعِدًا، فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، فَقُلْتُ: أَلَا أَعْرِضُ عَلَيْكَ مَا حَدَّثَتْنِي عَائِشَةُ عَنْ مَرَضِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: هَاتِ، فَحَدَّثْتُهُ، فَمَا أَنْكَرَ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: هَلْ سَمَّتْ لَكَ الرَّجُلَ الَّذِي كَانَ مَعَ الْعَبَّاسِ؟ قُلْتُ: لَا، قَالَ: هُوَ عَلِيٌّ رَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ.
