Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 5333
A man from Banu Khalid bin Asid asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): "We find the mention of Salat al-Khawf (prayer in fear) and Salat al-Hazr (prayer in a state of security) in the Holy Quran, but we do not find the mention of Salat al-Safar (prayer during travel), (yet the prayer is shortened during travel)?" He replied: "When Allah Almighty sent the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), we did not know anything. We will only do what we saw him doing."

آل خالد بن اسید کے ایک آدمی نے سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے پوچھا کہ قرآن کریم میں ہمیں نماز خوف اور حضر کی نماز کا تذکرہ تو ملتا ہے لیکن سفر کی نماز کا تذکرہ نہیں ملتا (اس کے باوجود سفر میں نماز قصر کی جاتی ہے؟) انہوں نے فرمایا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے رسول اللہ ﷺ کو جس وقت مبعوث فرمایا ہم کچھ نہیں جانتے تھے ہم تو وہ کریں گے جیسے ہم نے انہیں کرتے ہوئے دیکھا ہے۔
Al Khalid bin Asid ke aik aadmi ne Sayidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se poocha ke Quran Kareem mein humein Namaz e Khauf aur Hazar ki Namaz ka tazkara to milta hai lekin safar ki Namaz ka tazkara nahin milta (iss ke bawajood safar mein Namaz qasar ki jaati hai?) Unhon ne farmaya ke Allah Ta'ala ne Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko jis waqt mabsoos farmaya hum kuch nahin jaante the hum to woh karenge jaise humne unhein karte hue dekha hai.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ آلِ خَالِدِ بْنِ أَسِيدٍ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ : إِنَّا" نَجِدُ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ فِي الْقُرْآنِ وَصَلَاةَ الْحَضَرِ، وَلَا نَجِدُ صَلَاةَ السَّفَرِ؟! فَقَالَ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى بَعَثَ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ شَيْئًا، فَإِنَّمَا نَفْعَلُ كَمَا رَأَيْنَا مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَفْعَلُ".
