Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 842
Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said that Witr prayer does not have definitive proof from the Holy Quran like the obligatory prayers, but its obligation is proven from the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, so do not abandon it.

سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ فرماتے ہیں کہ وتر فرض نماز کی طرح قرآن کریم سے حتمی ثبوت نہیں رکھتے، لیکن ان کا وجوب نبی ﷺ کی سنت سے ثابت ہے، اس لئے تم اسے ترک نہ کیا کرو۔
Sayyidna Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه) farmate hain ki witr farz namaz ki tarah Quran Kareem se hatmi saboot nahin rakhte, lekin in ka wujoob Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki sunnat se sabit hai, is liye tum ise tark na kiya karo.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، سَمِعْتُ عَاصِمَ بْنَ ضَمْرَةَ يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ:" لَيْسَ الْوَتْرُ بِحَتْمٍ كَالصَّلَاةِ، وَلَكِنْ سُنَّةٌ فَلَا تَدَعُوهُ"، قَالَ شُعْبَةُ: وَوَجَدْتُهُ مَكْتُوبًا عِنْدِي:" وَقَدْ أَوْتَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ".
