Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 8561
Sahl bin Abi Saleh, may Allah have mercy on him, said: I went with my father to Syria. (I saw) when the people of Syria passed by the people of a church, they would greet them. I heard my father say on this occasion that I heard from Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: Do not greet them first and force them to walk on the narrow side of the road.

سہل بن ابی صالح رحمتہ اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ میں اپنے والد کے ساتھ شام کی طرف روانہ ہوا (میں نے دیکھا کہ) شام کے لوگ جب کسی گرجے کے لوگوں پر گذرتے تو انہیں سلام کرتے میں نے اس موقع پر اپنے والد کو یہ کہتے ہوئے سنا کہ میں نے حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے نبی ﷺ کا یہ فرمان سنا ہے کہ انہیں سلام کرنے میں پہل نہ کرو اور انہیں تنگ راستے کی طرف مجبور کردو۔
Sahl bin Abi Salih rehmatullah alaih kehte hain ke ek martaba mein apne wald ke sath Sham ki taraf rawana hua mein ne dekha ke Sham ke log jab kisi girje ke logon par guzarte to unhen salam karte mein ne is mauqe par apne wald ko yeh kehte huye suna ke mein ne Hazrat Abu Hurairah razi Allah tala anhu se Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ka yeh farman suna hai ke unhen salam karne mein pehle na karo aur unhen tang raste ki taraf majboor karo.
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، أَخْبَرَنِي سُهَيْلُ بْنُ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، قَالَ: خَرَجْتُ مَعَ أَبِي إِلَى الشَّامِ، فَكَانَ أَهْلُ الشَّام، يَمُرُّونَ بِأَهْلِ الصَّوَامِعِ فَيُسَلِّمُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَسَمِعْتُ أَبِي ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ: " لَا تَبْدَءُوهُمْ بِالسَّلَامِ، وَاضْطَرُّوهُمْ إِلَى أَضْيَقِهِ" .
