Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 8633
Abu Uthman Nahdi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Once I stayed as a guest with Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) for seven days. He had divided the night into three parts for himself, his wife, and his servant. First, one person would pray, then he would wake the second, who would pray, and then he would wake the third. One day I asked, "O Abu Hurairah! How do you observe fasting?" He replied, "I fast three days at the beginning of the month, and if something urgent comes up, I fast at the end of the month." And I heard Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: Once, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) distributed some dates among his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). I received seven dates, one of which was unripe. To me, it was the best of them all because I had to chew it thoroughly (and my gums and teeth were moving).

ابوعثمان نہدی رحمہ اللہ کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ میں سات دن تک حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کے یہاں مہمان رہا انہوں نے اپنی بیوی اور خادم کے ساتھ رات کو تین حصوں میں تقسیم کر رکھا تھا پہلے ایک آدمی نماز پڑھتا پھر وہ دوسرے کو جگا دیتا وہ نماز پڑھ لیتا تو تیسرے کو جگا دیتا ایک دن میں نے پوچھا اے ابوہریرہ! آپ روزہ کس ترتیب سے رکھتے ہیں؟ فرمایا: کہ میں تو مہینے کے آغاز میں ہی تین روزے رکھ لیتا ہوں اور اگر کوئی مجبوری پیش آجائے تو مہینے کے آخر میں رکھ لیتا ہوں اور میں نے حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ نے اپنے صحابہ رضی اللہ عنہ کے درمیان کچھ کھجوریں تقسیم فرمائیں مجھے سات کھجوریں ملیں جن میں سے ایک کھجور گدر بھی تھی میرے نزدیک وہ ان میں سب میں سے زیادہ عمدہ تھی کہ اسے سختی سے مجھے چبانا پڑ رہا تھا (اور میرے مسوڑھے اور دانت حرکت کر رہے تھے)
Abu Usman Nahdi rahmatullah alaih kehte hain ki ek martaba main saat din tak Hazrat Abu Hurairah razi Allah tala anhu ke yahan mehman raha Unhon ne apni biwi aur khadim ke sath raat ko teen hisson mein taqseem kar rakha tha pehle ek aadmi namaz parhta phir wo dusre ko jaga deta wo namaz parh leta to teesre ko jaga deta Ek din main ne poocha aye Abu Hurairah aap roza kis tartib se rakhte hain Farmaya ki main to mahine ke aaghaz mein hi teen roze rakh leta hun aur agar koi majboori pesh aaye to mahine ke akhir mein rakh leta hun aur main ne Hazrat Abu Hurairah razi Allah tala anhu ko ye farmate huye suna ki ek martaba Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne apne sahaba razi Allah tala anhum ke darmiyan kuchh khajuren taqseem farmaeen mujhe saat khajuren mili jin mein se ek khajoor gadar bhi thi mere nazdeek wo in mein sab se zyada umda thi ki use sakhti se mujhe chabana par raha tha aur mere masoore aur daant harkat kar rahe the
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ ، عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ فَرُّوخَ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِي ، يَقُولُ: تَضَيَّفْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ سَبْعًا، فَكَانَ هُوَ وَامْرَأَتُهُ وَخَادِمُهُ يَعْتَقِبُونَ اللَّيْلَ أَثْلَاثًا، يُصَلِّي هَذَا، ثُمَّ يُوقِظُ هَذَا، وَيُصَلِّي هَذَا، ثُمَّ يَرْقُدُ، وَيُوقِظُ هَذَا، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ كَيْفَ تَصُومُ؟ قَالَ: أَمَّا أَنَا، فَأَصُومُ مِنْ أَوَّلِ الشَّهْرِ ثَلَاثًا، فَإِنْ حَدَثَ لِي حَادِثٌ، كَانَ آخِرُ شَهْرِي . قَالَ: قَالَ: وَسَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، يَقُولُ : قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ تَمْرًا، فَأَصَابَنِي سَبْعُ تَمَرَاتٍ، إِحْدَاهُنَّ حَشَفَةٌ، وَمَا فِيهِنَّ شَيْءٌ أَعْجَبُ إِلَيَّ مِنْهَا، أَنَّهَا شَدَّتْ مَضَاغِي" .
