Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 9376
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard Abu'l-Qasim (the Prophet (ﷺ)) say: Observe the fast seeing the crescent (of Ramadan), and cease fasting seeing the crescent (of Shawwal). But if the weather is cloudy for you, then complete the month of Sha'ban with thirty days.

حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ میں نے ابوالقاسم ﷺ کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا ہے کہ چاند کو دیکھ کر روزہ رکھا کرو، چاند دیکھ کر عید منایا کرو، اگر چاند نظر نہ آئے اور آسمان پر ابر چھایا ہو تو تیس کی گنتی پوری کیا کرو۔
Hazrat Abu Hurairah razi Allah anhu se marvi hai keh maine Abu al Qasim (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko ye farmate huye suna hai keh chand ko dekh kar roza rakha karo, chand dekh kar Eid manaya karo, agar chand nazar na aaye aur asmaan par abar chaya ho to tees ki ginti puri kiya karo.
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " صُومُوا الْهِلَالَ لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَعُدُّوا ثَلَاثِينَ" .
