Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 9481
Narrated Abu Huraira (RA): Some people asked, "O Messenger of Allah, tell us of such a deed as merits rewards equal to those of Jihad." He (the Prophet) replied, "You cannot do it." He (the Prophet) said so two or three times. They again requested, "Please tell us, we might be able." Thereupon, he said, "The example of a Mujahid in Allah's Cause is that of a person who observes fast and stands in prayer (for offering the night prayer) and remains afraid of Allah with his heart full of humility, and he does not slacken his efforts in worship, and keeps on doing it till the warrior (Mujahid) returns home (from Jihad).

حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ کچھ لوگوں نے عرض کیا یارسول اللہ ﷺ ہمیں کوئی ایسا عمل بتائیے جو جہاد کے برابر ہو؟ نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا تم اس کی طاقت نہیں رکھتے (دو تین مرتبہ فرمایا) لوگوں نے عرض کیا کہ آپ بتا دیجئے شاید ہم کرسکیں نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا اللہ کے راستہ میں جہاد کرنے والے کی مثال اس آدمی کی سی ہے جو دن کو روزہ، رات کو قیام اور اللہ کی آیات کے سامنے عاجز ہو اور اس نماز روزے میں کسی قسم کی کوتاہی نہ کرے، یہاں تک کہ وہ مجاہد اپنے اہل خانہ کے پاس واپس آجائے۔
Hazrat Abu Huraira Radi Allah Anhu se marvi hai keh kuch logon ne arz kiya Ya Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) humein koi aisa amal bataiye jo jihad ke barabar ho? Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya tum is ki taqat nahi rakhte (do teen martaba farmaya) logon ne arz kiya keh aap bata dijiye shayad hum karsaken Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya Allah ke raaste mein jihad karne wale ki misal is aadmi ki si hai jo din ko roza, raat ko qayam aur Allah ki ayat ke samne aajiz ho aur is namaz rozey mein kisi qisam ki kotahi na kare, yahan tak ke woh mujahid apne ahl khana ke pass wapas aajaye.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُهَيْلٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ: قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَخْبِرْنَا بِعَمَلٍ يَعْدِلُ الْجِهَادَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ. قَالَ:" لَا تُطِيقُونَهُ" مَرَّتَيْنِ , أَوْ ثَلَاثًا. قَالَ: قَالُوا: أَخْبِرْنَا فَلَعَلَّنَا نُطِيقُهُ. قَالَ: " مَثَلُ الْمُجَاهِدِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ الصَّائِمِ الْقَائِمِ، الْقَانِتِ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ، لَا يَفْتُرُ مِنْ صِيَامٍ وَلَا صَلَاةٍ، حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ الْمُجَاهِدُ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ" .
