Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 9925
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led us in the afternoon prayer (Asr). He offered two rak'ahs (units of prayer) and then said the salam (salutation marking the end of prayer). At this, Dhul-Yadayn (a companion known for having long hands) stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Have you forgotten or have the rak'ahs of the prayer been reduced?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied, "I have neither forgotten, nor have the rak'ahs of the prayer been reduced." He said, "Something must have happened." Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked his companions, "Is it as Dhul-Yadayn is saying?" The companions confirmed it. Thereupon, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) offered the two rak'ahs that he had missed. After finishing the prayer with the salam, he performed two prostrations of forgetfulness (sajdah sahw) while sitting.

حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی کریم ﷺ نے ہمیں عصر کی نماز پڑھائی اور دو رکعتیں پڑھا کر سلام پھیر دیا اس پر ذوالیدین نے کھڑے ہو کر عرض کیا یا رسول اللہ ﷺ کیا آپ بھول گئے یا نماز کی رکعتیں کم ہوگئی ہیں؟ نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا میں بھولا بھی نہیں ہوں اور نہ ہی نماز کی رکعتیں کم ہوئی ہیں اس نے کہا کچھ تو ہوا ہے پھر نبی کریم ﷺ نے صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہ سے پوچھا کیا ایسا ہی ہے جیسے ذوالیدین کہہ رہے ہیں؟ صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہ نے ان کی تائید کی اس پر نبی کریم ﷺ نے جو دو رکعتیں چھوٹ گئی تھیں انہیں ادا کیا۔ اور سلام پھیر کر بیٹھے بیٹھے سجدہ سہو کے دو سجدے کر لئے۔
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se marvi hai ki ek martaba Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne humein Asr ki namaz parhayi aur do rakatein parh kar salaam pher diya iss par Zualideen ne kharay ho kar arz kiya Ya Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) kya aap bhul gaye ya namaz ki rakatein kam ho gayi hain? Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya mein bhula bhi nahin hun aur na hi namaz ki rakatein kam hui hain iss ne kaha kuch to hua hai phir Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne Sahaba Kiram (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se pucha kya aisa hi hai jaise Zualideen keh rahe hain? Sahaba Kiram (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne inn ki taid ki iss par Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne jo do rakatein chhut gayi thin unhein ada kiya aur salaam pher kar baithe baithe sajdah sahw ke do sajde kar liye.
قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : مَالِكٌ , وَحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ ، قََالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ الْحُصَيْنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ فِي حَدِيثِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ مَوْلَى ابْنِ أَبِي أَحْمَدَ , أَنَّهُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ , يَقُولُ: " صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الْعَصْرِ، فَسَلَّمَ مِنْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، فَقَامَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ، فَقَالَ: أَقَصُرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَمْ نَسِيتَ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم:" كُلُّ ذَلِكَ لَمْ يَكُنْ" , فَقَالَ: قَدْ كَانَ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّاسِ، فَقَالَ:" أَصَدَقَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ؟" فَقَالُوا: نَعَمْ،" فَأَتَمَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا بَقِيَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ" .
