Walid bin Muslim said: "I asked Laith bin Sa'd about this, and he said: 'A city or town in which there is a community (Jama'ah) and they have a leader, then he should order them to pray Jumu'ah and should lead them in Jumu'ah prayer.' So the people of Alexandria, the cities of Egypt and the coast used to pray Jumu'ah during the time of Umar bin Al-Khattab (RA) and Uthman bin Affan (RA), and there were Companions among them."

(٥٦١٢) ولید بن مسلم فرماتے ہیں کہ میں نے لیث بن سعد سے اس بارے میں سوال کیا تو انھوں نے فرمایا : وہ شہر یا بستی جس میں جماعت ہوتی ہو اور ان کا امیر ہو تو وہ ان کو جمعہ کا حکم دے اور جمعہ پڑھائے۔ چنانچہ اسکندریہ، مصر کے شہر اور ساحل والے عمر بن (رض) خطاب اور عثمان بن عفان (رض) کے دور میں جمعہ پڑھتے تھے اور ان میں صحابہ بھی رہتے تھے۔

٥٦١٢ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ الْفَقِيهُ، أنبأ أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ حَيَّانَ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو عَامِرٍ مُوسَى بْنُ عَامِرٍ،ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ:سَأَلْتُ اللَّيْثَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ،فَقَالَ:" كُلُّ مَدِينَةٍ أَوْ قَرْيَةٍ فِيهَا جَمَاعَةٌ وَعَلَيْهِمْ أَمِيرٌ أُمِرُوا بِالْجُمُعَةِ فَلْيُجَمِّعْ بِهِمْ. فَإِنَّ أَهْلَ الْإِسْكَنْدَرِيَّةِ وَمَدَائِنَ مِصْرَ، وَمَدَائِنَ سَوَاحِلِهَا كَانُوا يُجَمِّعُونَ الْجُمُعَةَ عَلَى عَهْدِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ وَعُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا بِأَمْرِهِمَا، وَفِيهَا رِجَالٌ مِنَ الصَّحَابَةِ "
