Chapter: Faith increases and decreases

باب زِيَادَةِ الإِيمَانِ وَنُقْصَانِهِ

Sahih al-Bukhari 44

Narrated Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه), the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, "Whoever said 'there is no god but Allah ( ََّّ وَجَلعَز) and has in his heart good (Iman) equal to the weight of a barley grain will be taken out of Hell. And whoever said : 'there is no god but Allah ( ََّّ وَجَلعَز) and has in his heart good (Iman) equal to the weight of a wheat grain will be taken out of Hell. And whoever said, 'there is no god but Allah ( ََّّ وَجَلعَز) and has in his heart good (Iman) equal to the weight of an atom will be taken out of Hell.'

حضرت انس ؓ سے روایت ہے، وہ نبی اکرم ﷺ سے بیان کرتے ہیں، آپ نے فرمایا: ’’جس نے «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللہُ» کہا اور اس کے دل میں ایک جَو کے برابر نیکی (ایمان) ہو، وہ دوزخ سے (ضرور) نکلے گا۔ اور جس نے «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللہُ» کہا اور اس کے دل میں گیہوں کے دانے کے برابر بھلائی (ایمان) ہو، وہ دوزخ سے ضرور نکلے گا۔ اور جس نے «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللہُ» کہا اور اس کے دل میں ایک ذرہ برابر نیکی (ایمان) ہو، وہ بھی دوزخ سے (ضرور) نکلے گا۔‘‘ حضرت امام ابو عبداللہ بخاری ؓ فرماتے ہیں: ابان نے بروایت قتادہ بواسطہ حضرت انس ؓ نبی ﷺ سے لفظ خير کی جگہ ايمان کا لفظ نقل کیا ہے۔

Hazrat Anas (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai, woh Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) se bayan karte hain, aap ne farmaya: ''Jis ne «LA ILAHA ILLALLAHU» kaha aur uske dil mein ek jo ke barabar neki (Iman) ho, woh dozakh se (zaroor) niklega. Aur jis ne «LA ILAHA ILLALLAHU» kaha aur uske dil mein gehoon ke daane ke barabar bhalai (Iman) ho, woh dozakh se zaroor niklega. Aur jis ne «LA ILAHA ILLALLAHU» kaha aur uske dil mein ek zarra barabar neki (Iman) ho, woh bhi dozakh se (zaroor) niklega.'' Hazrat Imam Abu Abdullah Bukhari (Rahimahullah) farmate hain: Aban ne barivayat Qatadah bawasta Hazrat Anas (Radi Allahu Anhu) Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) se lafz khair ki jagah Iman ka lafz naql kiya hai.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : يَخْرُجُ مِنَ النَّارِ مَنْ قَالَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَفِي قَلْبِهِ وَزْنُ شَعِيرَةٍ مِنْ خَيْرٍ ، وَيَخْرُجُ مِنَ النَّارِ مَنْ قَالَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَفِي قَلْبِهِ وَزْنُ بُرَّةٍ مِنْ خَيْرٍ ، وَيَخْرُجُ مِنَ النَّارِ مَنْ قَالَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَفِي قَلْبِهِ وَزْنُ ذَرَّةٍ مِنْ خَيْرٍ ، قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ : قَالَ أَبَانُ : حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسٌ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مِنْ إِيمَانٍ مَكَانَ مِنْ خَيْرٍ .

Narrated Hadhrat Umar bin Al-Khattab (رضي الله تعالى عنه), once a Jew said to me, "O'chief of believers! there is a verse in your Book (Quran) which is read by all of you, and had it been revealed to us, we would have taken that day (on which it was revealed, as a day of celebration). Hadhrat Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) asked, 'which is that verse?' The Jew replied, َ مَ دِينًاْ ِ سْالِ يتُ لَكُمُ اإلَ ضْ مَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَ رالْيَو[This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, And have chosen for you Islam as your religion.]. (Al-Maaida - 3). Hadhrat Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) replied, 'no doubt, we know when and where this verse was revealed to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). It was Friday and the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was standing at Arafat (9th Dhul Hijja, 10 AH - March 6, 632 AD).

حضرت عمر بن خطاب ؓ سے روایت ہے، ایک یہودی نے ان سے کہا: اے امیر المومنین! تمہاری کتاب (قرآن) میں ایک ایسی آیت ہے جسے تم پڑھتے رہتے ہو، اگر وہ آیت ہم یہودیوں پر نازل ہوتی تو ہم اس دن کو عید کا دن ٹھہرا لیتے۔ حضرت عمر ؓ نے کہا: وہ کون سی آیت ہے؟ یہودی بولا یہ آیت: ’’آج میں نے تمہارے لیے تمہارا دین کامل کر دیا اور تم پر اپنی نعمت پوری کر دی اور دین اسلام کو تمہارے لیے پسند کر لیا۔‘‘ حضرت عمر ؓ نے کہا: ’’ہم اس دن اور اس مقام کو جانتے ہیں جس میں یہ آیت نبی ﷺ پر نازل ہوئی۔ یہ آیت جمعے کے دن اتری جب آپ عرفات میں کھڑے تھے۔‘‘

Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai, ek Yahoodi ne un se kaha: Ae Amir-ul-Momineen! Tumhari kitab (Quran) mein ek aisi Ayat hai jise tum parhte rehte ho, agar woh Ayat hum Yahoodiyon par nazil hoti to hum us din ko Eid ka din thehra lete. Hazrat Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) ne kaha: Woh kon si Ayat hai? Yahoodi bola yeh Ayat: ''Aaj main ne tumhare liye tumhara Deen kamil kar diya aur tum par apni Ne'mat poori kar di aur Deen-e-Islam ko tumhare liye pasand kar liya.'' Hazrat Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) ne kaha: ''Hum us din aur us maqam ko jante hain jis mein yeh Ayat Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) par nazil hui. Yeh Ayat Jume ke din utri jab aap Arafat mein khare the.''

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ ، سَمِعَ جَعْفَرَ بْنَ عَوْنٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعُمَيْسِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا قَيْسُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ الْيَهُودِ ، قَالَ لَهُ : يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، آيَةٌ فِي كِتَابِكُمْ تَقْرَءُونَهَا لَوْ عَلَيْنَا مَعْشَرَ الْيَهُودِ نَزَلَتْ لَاتَّخَذْنَا ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ عِيدًا ، قَالَ : أَيُّ آيَةٍ ؟ قَالَ : الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الإِسْلامَ دِينًا سورة المائدة آية 3 ، قَالَ عُمَرُ : قَدْ عَرَفْنَا ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ وَالْمَكَانَ الَّذِي نَزَلَتْ فِيهِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ بِعَرَفَةَ يَوْمَ جُمُعَةٍ .
