"And from wheresoever you start forth (for prayers), turn your face in the direction of Al-Masjid-al-Harãm (at Makkah), and wheresoever you are, turn your face towards it [when you pray)]..." (V.2:150)

Sahih al-Bukhari 4494
Narrated Ibn `Umar: While some people were offering Fajr prayer at Quba mosque, someone came to them and said, Qur'anic literature has been revealed to Allah's Messenger tonight, and he has been ordered to face the Ka`ba (of Mecca) so you too, should turn your faces towards it. Their faces were then towards Sham (Jerusalem), so they turned towards the Qibla (i.e. Ka`ba of Mecca).
حضرت ابن عمر ؓ سے روایت ہے کہ لوگ ابھی مسجد قباء میں صبح کی نماز پڑھ ہی رہے تھے کہ ایک آنے والے نے آ کر خبر دی: آج رات رسول اللہ ﷺ پر قرآن نازل ہوا ہے اور آپ کو خانہ کعبہ کی طرف منہ کرنے کا حکم دیا گیا ہے، اس لیے آپ لوگ بھی اسی طرح منہ کر لیں۔ وہ لوگ اس وقت شام (بیت المقدس) کی طرف منہ کر کے نماز پڑھ رہے تھے وہ اسی حالت میں کعبے کی طرف پھر گئے۔
Hazrat Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai ke log abhi Masjid-e-Quba mein subah ki namaz parh hi rahe the ke ek aane wale ne aa kar khabar di: Aaj raat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) par Quran nazil hua hai aur aap ko Khana-e-Ka'ba ki taraf munh karne ka hukm diya gaya hai, is liye aap log bhi isi tarah munh kar lein. Woh log is waqt Shaam (Bait-ul-Maqdis) ki taraf munh kar ke namaz parh rahe the woh isi halat mein Ka'be ki taraf phir gaye.
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ , عَنْ مَالِكٍ , عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ , عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ , قَالَ : بَيْنَمَا النَّاسُ فِي صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ بِقُبَاءٍ إِذْ جَاءَهُمْ آتٍ , فَقَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ اللَّيْلَةَ وَقَدْ أُمِرَ أَنْ يَسْتَقْبِلَ الْكَعْبَةَ فَاسْتَقْبِلُوهَا وَكَانَتْ وُجُوهُهُمْ إِلَى الشَّأْمِ فَاسْتَدَارُوا إِلَى الْقِبْلَةِ .
