Sahih al-Bukhari 4511
Sahl bin Sa`d (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the verse – َ بُوا حَتَّىوَكُلُوا وَاشْر َُ مِنيَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الْخَيْطُ األَبْيَض ِالْخَيْطِ األَسْوَد [And eat and drink until the white thread appears to you distinct from the black thread] was revealed, but, ِمِنَ الْفَجْر [of dawn] was not revealed (along with it) so some men, when intending to fast, used to tie their legs, one with white thread and the other with black thread and would keep on eating till they could distinguish one thread from the other. Then Allah revealed – ِمِنَ الْفَجْر [of dawn], whereupon they understood that meant the night and the day.
حضرت سہل بن سعد ؓ سے روایت ہے، انہوں نے فرمایا: جب یہ آیت نازل ہوئی: "کھاؤ اور پیو یہاں تک کہ تم پر سفید دھاگا، سیاہ دھاگے سے ممتاز ہو جائے۔" اور مِنَ الْفَجْرِ کے الفاظ ابھی نازل نہیں ہوئے تھے۔ کچھ لوگ جب روزہ رکھنے کا ارادہ کرتے تو اپنے دونوں پاؤں سے سفید اور سیاہ دھاگا باندھ لیتے۔ پھر جب تک وہ دونوں دھاگے صاف دکھائی نہ دینے لگ جاتے، کھاتے پیتے رہتے۔ پھر اللہ تعالٰی نے مِنَ الْفَجْرِ کے الفاظ اتارے تو انہیں معلوم ہوا کہ ان (دونوں دھاگوں) سے مراد تو رات اور دن ہے۔
Hazrat Sahl bin Saad (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai, unhon ne farmaya: Jab yeh ayat nazil hui: "Khao aur piyo yahan tak ke tum par safaid dhaga, siyah dhage se mumtaz ho jaye." Aur 'Minal Fajr' ke alfaz abhi nazil nahi hue the. Kuch log jab roza rakhne ka irada karte to apne dono paon se safaid aur siyah dhaga baandh lete. Phir jab tak woh dono dhage saaf dikhayi na dene lag jaate, khate peete rehte. Phir Allah Ta'ala ne 'Minal Fajr' ke alfaz utare to unhein maloom hua ke in (dono dhagon) se murad to raat aur din hai.
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ , حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو غَسَّانَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُطَرِّفٍ , حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ , قَالَ : وَأُنْزِلَتْ وَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الْخَيْطُ الأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الأَسْوَدِ سورة البقرة آية 187 وَلَمْ يُنْزَلْ مِنَ الْفَجْرِ ، وَكَانَ رِجَالٌ إِذَا أَرَادُوا الصَّوْمَ رَبَطَ أَحَدُهُمْ فِي رِجْلَيْهِ الْخَيْطَ الْأَبْيَضَ وَالْخَيْطَ الْأَسْوَدَ وَلَا يَزَالُ يَأْكُلُ حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُ رُؤْيَتُهُمَا ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ بَعْدَهُ مِنَ الْفَجْرِ سورة البقرة آية 187 فَعَلِمُوا أَنَّمَا يَعْنِي اللَّيْلَ مِنَ النَّهَارِ .
