"...And the moon has been cleft asunder (the people of Makkah requested Prophet Muḥammad pbuh to show them a miracle, so he showed them the splitting of the moon). And if they see a sign, they turn away..." (V.54:1,2)

Sahih al-Bukhari 4864
Ibn Masud (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) the moon was split into two parts; one part remained over the mountain, and the other part went beyond the mountain. On that, Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘witness this miracle.’
حضرت عبداللہ بن مسعود ؓ سے روایت ہے، انہوں نے کہا: رسول اللہ ﷺ کے عہد مبارک ہی میں چاند دو ٹکڑے ہو گیا تھا: ایک ٹکڑا پہاڑ کے اوپر اور دوسرا اس کے پیچھے چلا گیا تھا۔ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے (اس موقع پر) فرمایا: ’’گواہ رہو۔‘‘
Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ood (Radiyallahu Anhu) se riwayat hai, unhon ne bayan kiya ke Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke ahd-e-mubarak hi mein chaand do tukde ho gaya tha: Ek tukda pahadi ke upar aur doosra us ke peeche chala gaya tha. Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne (is mauqe par) farmaya: ''Gawah raho.''
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، وَسُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَ : انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِرْقَتَيْنِ ، فِرْقَةً فَوْقَ الْجَبَلِ ، وَفِرْقَةً دُونَهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : اشْهَدُوا .
