"...And the moon has been cleft asunder (the people of Makkah requested Prophet Muḥammad pbuh to show them a miracle, so he showed them the splitting of the moon). And if they see a sign, they turn away..." (V.54:1,2)

Sahih al-Bukhari 4867
Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the people of Makka asked the Prophet ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) to show them a sign (miracle). So, he showed them (the miracle) of the cleaving of the moon.
حضرت انس ؓ سے روایت ہے، انہوں نے فرمایا: اہل مکہ نے آپ ﷺ سے کوئی نشانی دکھانے کی فرمائی کی تو آپ ﷺ نے انہیں چاند کے دو ٹکڑے ہو جانے کا معجزہ دکھایا۔
Hazrat Anas (Radiyallahu Anhu) se riwayat hai, unhon ne farmaya: Ahal-e-Makkah ne aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) se koi nishani dikhane ki farmaish ki to aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne unhen chaand ke do tukde ho jaane ka maujiza dikhaya.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : سَأَلَ أَهْلُ مَكَّةَ أَنْ يُرِيَهُمْ آيَةً ، فَأَرَاهُمُ انْشِقَاقَ الْقَمَرِ .
