The Statement of Allah the Exalted: "So, glorify the praises of your Lord, and ask His forgiveness. Verily! He is the One Who accepts the repentance and forgives." (V.110:3)

Sahih al-Bukhari 4970
Narrated Ibn `Abbas: `Umar used to make me sit with the elderly men who had fought in the Battle of Badr. Some of them felt it (did not like that) and said to `Umar Why do you bring in this boy to sit with us while we have sons like him? `Umar replied, Because of what you know of his position (i.e. his religious knowledge.) One day `Umar called me and made me sit in the gathering of those people; and I think that he called me just to show them. (my religious knowledge). `Umar then asked them (in my presence). What do you say about the interpretation of the Statement of Allah: 'When comes Help of Allah (to you O, Muhammad against your enemies) and the conquest (of Mecca).' (110.1) Some of them said, We are ordered to praise Allah and ask for His forgiveness when Allah's Help and the conquest (of Mecca) comes to us. Some others kept quiet and did not say anything. On that, `Umar asked me, Do you say the same, O Ibn `Abbas? I replied, No. He said, 'What do you say then? I replied, That is the sign of the death of Allah's Messenger which Allah informed him of. Allah said:-- '(O Muhammad) When comes the Help of Allah (to you against your enemies) and the conquest (of Mecca) (which is the sign of your death). You should celebrate the praises of your Lord and ask for His Forgiveness, and He is the One Who accepts the repentance and forgives.' (110.3) On that `Umar said, I do not know anything about it other than what you have said.
حضرت ابن عباس ؓ سے روایت ہے، انہوں نے کہا: حضرت عمر ؓ مجھے عمر رسیدہ بدری صحابہ کے ساتھ مجلس میں بٹھاتے تھے۔ کچھ حضرات کو اس پر اعتراض ہوا۔ انہوں نے (حضرت عمر ؓ سے) کہا: آپ انہیں مجلس میں ہمارے ساتھ کیوں بٹھاتے ہیں جبکہ اس جیسے ہمارے بچے ہیں؟ حضرت عمر ؓ نے فرمایا: بلاشبہ تم اس کی حیثیت و مرتبہ جانتے ہو۔ پھر انہوں نے ایک دن مجھے بلایا اور ان (عمر رسیدہ بدری صحابہ) کے ساتھ بٹھایا۔ میں سمجھ گیا کہ آج مجھے آپ نے انہیں دکھانے کے لیے بٹھایا ہے، پھر ان سے پوچھا: اللہ تعالٰی کے اس ارشاد ﴿إِذَا جَآءَ نَصْرُ ٱللَّـهِ وَٱلْفَتْحُ﴾ کے متعلق تمہارا کیا خیال ہے؟ ان میں سے کچھ نے کہا: جب ہمیں مدد اور فتح حاصل ہو تو ہمیں حکم دیا گیا ہے کہ ہم اللہ کی حمد و ثنا کریں اور اس سے مغفرت طلب کریں جبکہ کچھ حضرات خاموش رہے اور انہوں نے کوئی جواب نہ دیا۔ پھر حضرت عمر ؓ نے مجھ سے پوچھا: اے ابن عباس! کیا تم بھی اسی طرح کہتے ہو؟ میں نے کہا: نہیں۔ (حضرت عمر ؓ نے) فرمایا: پھر تمہاری اس کے متعلق کیا رائے ہے؟ میں نے عرض کی: اس میں رسول اللہ ﷺ کی وفات کا اشارہ ہے۔ اللہ تعالٰی نے آپ ﷺ کو یہی چیز بتائی ہے اور فرمایا: ’’جب اللہ تعالٰی کی مدد آ پہنچے اور فتح آ جائے۔‘‘ یہ آپ کی وفات کی علامت ہے۔ ’’اس لیے آپ اپنے رب کی تعریف کے ساتھ اس کی تسبیح کریں اور اس سے بخشش طلب کریں۔ یقینا وہ بہت زیادہ توبہ قبول کرنے والا ہے۔‘‘ حضرت عمر ؓ نے فرمایا: میں بھی وہی جانتا ہوں جو تم نے کہا ہے۔
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (Radiyallahu Anhu) se riwayat hai, unhon ne kaha: Hazrat Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu) mujhe umr-raseeda Badri sahaba ke saath majlis mein bithate thay. Kuch hazraat ko is par aitraz hua. Unhon ne (Hazrat Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu) se) kaha: Aap unhen majlis mein hamare saath kyun bithate hain jabke is jaise hamare bachay hain? Hazrat Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu) ne farmaya: Bilashuba tum is ki haisiyat wa martaba jaante ho. Phir unhon ne ek din mujhe bulaya aur un (umr-raseeda Badri sahaba) ke saath bithaya. I main samajh gaya ke aaj mujhe aap ne unhen dikhane ke liye bithaya hai, phir un se poocha: Allah Ta'ala ke is irshad (Iza ja'a nasrullahi wal-fath) ke mutalleq tumhara kya khayal hai? In mein se kuch ne kaha: Jab humen madad aur fatah haasil ho to humen hukum diya gaya hai ke hum Allah ki hamd wa sana karen aur us se maghfirat talab karen jabke kuch hazraat khamosh rahe aur unhon ne koi jawab na diya. Phir Hazrat Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu) ne mujh se poocha: Ae Ibn-e-Abbas! Kya tum bhi isi tarah kehte ho? Main ne kaha: Nahi. (Hazrat Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu) ne) farmaya: Phir tumhari is ke mutalleq kya raye hai? Main ne arz ki: Is mein Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ki wafat ka ishara hai. Allah Ta'ala ne aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko yahi cheez batayi hai aur farmaya: ''Jab Allah Ta'ala ki madad aa pahunche aur fatah aa jaye.'' Yeh aap ki wafat ki alamat hai. ''Is liye aap apne Rabb ki tareef ke saath is ki tasbeeh karen aur us se bakhshish talab karen. Yaqeenan woh bohat zyada tauba qubool karne wala hai.'' Hazrat Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu) ne farmaya: Main bhi wahi jaanta hoon jo tum ne kaha hai.
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ عُمَرُ يُدْخِلُنِي مَعَ أَشْيَاخِ بَدْرٍ ، فَكَأَنَّ بَعْضَهُمْ وَجَدَ فِي نَفْسِهِ ، فَقَالَ : لِمَ تُدْخِلُ هَذَا مَعَنَا وَلَنَا أَبْنَاءٌ مِثْلُهُ ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : إِنَّهُ مَنْ قَدْ عَلِمْتُمْ ، فَدَعَاهُ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ ، فَأَدْخَلَهُ مَعَهُمْ ، فَمَا رُئِيتُ أَنَّهُ دَعَانِي يَوْمَئِذٍ إِلَّا لِيُرِيَهُمْ ، قَالَ : مَا تَقُولُونَ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ سورة النصر آية 1 ؟ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ : أُمِرْنَا أَنْ نَحْمَدَ اللَّهَ وَنَسْتَغْفِرَهُ إِذَا نُصِرْنَا وَفُتِحَ عَلَيْنَا ، وَسَكَتَ بَعْضُهُمْ فَلَمْ يَقُلْ شَيْئًا ، فَقَالَ لِي : أَكَذَاكَ تَقُولُ يَا ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ؟ فَقُلْتُ : لَا ، قَالَ : فَمَا تَقُولُ ، قُلْتُ : هُوَ أَجَلُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْلَمَهُ لَهُ ، قَالَ : إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ وَذَلِكَ عَلَامَةُ أَجَلِكَ ، فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْهُ إِنَّهُ كَانَ تَوَّابًا ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : مَا أَعْلَمُ مِنْهَا إِلَّا مَا تَقُولُ .
