Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "At the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the words of the Adhan were said twice each, and the words of the Iqamah were said once each. Except for "Qad qaamat-is-Salah" (prayer has begun), which was said twice. So, when we heard the Iqamah, everyone of us would perform ablution and come out of our homes."

سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ کے عہد (مبارک) میں اذان کے کلمات دو دو بار اور اقامت (کے کلمات) ایک ایک بار کہے جاتے تھے، ہاں جب قد قامت الصلاۃ پر آتے تو اس کو دو بار کہتے، لہٰذا جب ہم اقامت سنتے تو ہم میں سے (ہر) کوئی وضو کرتا اور گھر سے باہر آ جاتا۔
Sayyidna Abdullah bin Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ne kaha ki Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke ahd (mubarak) mein azaan ke kalimat do do baar aur iqamat (ke kalimat) ek ek baar kahe jate the, haan jab qad qamat-us-salat par aate to usko do baar kahte, lihaza jab hum iqamat sunte to hum mein se (har) koi wuzu karta aur ghar se bahar aa jata.
أَخْبَرَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ أَبِي الْمُثَنَّى، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ:"كَانَ الْأَذَانُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، وَالْإِقَامَةُ مَرَّةً، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا قَالَ: قَدْ قَامَتْ الصَّلَاةُ، قَالَهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ: فَإِذَا سَمِعْنَا الْإِقَامَةَ، تَوَضَّأَ أَحَدُنَا وَخَرَجَ".
