It was narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would place his hands on our shoulders and say, "Do not stand in rows in front of and behind one another, lest you cause dissension in your hearts," (i.e., hypocrisy will enter them). "The most intelligent and discerning of you should stand near me, then those who are close to them, then those who are close to them." Then Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "You people have fallen into great disunity today."

سیدنا ابومسعود انصاری رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ ہمارے کندھوں پر ہاتھ پھیرتے اور فرماتے تھے: آگے پیچھے نہ کھڑے ہو کہ تمہارے دلوں میں اختلاف پڑ جائے (یعنی پھوٹ پڑ جائے گی)، میرے پاس تم میں سے عقلمند و ہوشیار لوگ کھڑے ہوں، پھر وہ جو ان کے قریب ہوں، پھر وہ جو ان کے قریب ہوں، اس کے بعد سیدنا ابومسعود رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: آج تم لوگوں میں بے انتہا اختلاف پیدا ہو گئے ہیں۔
Sayyidna Abu Masood Ansari (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se marvi hai ki Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) hamare kandhon par hath pherte aur farmate the: Aage peeche na khade ho ki tumhare dilon mein ikhtilaf pad jaye (yani phoot pad jayegi), mere pass tum mein se aqilmand o hoshyar log khade hon, phir wo jo un ke qareeb hon, phir wo jo un ke qareeb hon, uske baad Sayyidna Abu Masood (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne kaha: Aaj tum logon mein be inteha ikhtilaf paida ho gaye hain.
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْسَحُ مَنَاكِبَنَا فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَيَقُولُ: "لَا تَخْتَلِفُوا، فَتَخْتَلِفَ قُلُوبُكُمْ، لِيَلِيَنِّي مِنْكُمْ أُولُو الْأَحْلَامِ وَالنُّهَى، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ". قَالَ أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ: فَأَنْتُمْ الْيَوْمَ أَشَدُّ اخْتِلَافًا.
