Sunan al-Darimi 1728
Sayyiduna Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The month (sometimes) has twenty-nine days, so do not fast until you sight the moon (after twenty-nine days), and do not stop fasting until you sight it (the new moon of Shawwal), but if the sky is cloudy for you, then complete the count of thirty days."

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”مہینہ (کبھی) انتیس کا بھی ہوتا ہے اس لئے (انتیس دن پورے ہونے پر) جب تک چاند نہ دیکھ لو روزہ نہ رکھو، اور نہ چاند دیکھے بنا روزہ موقوف کرو، اگر ابر ہو جائے تو تیس دن کا شمار پورا کر لو۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ne kaha ki Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: “Mahina (kabhi) untis ka bhi hota hai is liye (untis din pure hone par) jab tak chand na dekh lo roza na rakho, aur na chand dekhe bina roza moquf karo, agar abr ho jaye to tees din ka shumar pura kar lo.”
حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهِ عَنْهُمَا، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:"إِنَّمَا الشَّهْرُ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ، فَلَا تَصُومُوا حَتَّى تَرَوْهُ، وَلَا تُفْطِرُوا حَتَّى تَرَوْهُ، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ، فَاقْدُرُوا لَهُ".
