Sunan al-Darimi 1790
Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "The most beloved fasting to Allah is the fasting of David (peace be upon him), he used to fast one day and break the fast on the other day. And the most beloved prayer to Allah is the prayer of David (peace be upon him), he used to sleep half of the night, pray for a third of it, and glorify Allah for a sixth of it." Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said, "This last sentence is wrong, the correct one is that he used to sleep half of the night, pray for a third of it, and glorify Allah for a sixth of it."

سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمرو رضی اللہ عنہما نے مرفوعاً بیان کیا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کو روزوں میں سب سے زیادہ پسندیدہ داؤد علیہ السلام کا روزہ ہے، وہ ایک دن روزہ رکھتے اور ایک دن افطار کرتے تھے، اور اللہ تعالیٰ کو (رات کی) نمازوں میں سب زیادہ محبوب داؤد علیہ السلام کی نماز ہے، وہ آدھی رات نماز پڑھتے، ایک تہائی سوتے، اور رات کا چھٹا حصہ تسبیح پڑھتے تھے۔ امام دارمی رحمہ اللہ نے کہا: یہ آخری جملہ غلط ہے، صحیح یہ ہے کہ آدھی رات وہ سوتے، ایک تہائی نماز پڑھتے، اور ایک سدس تسبیح کرتے تھے۔
Sayyidna Abdullah bin Amro ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ne marfooan bayan kiya keh Allah Ta'ala ko rozon mein sab se zyada pasandida Dawood Alayhis Salam ka roza hai, woh ek din roza rakhte aur ek din iftar karte thay, aur Allah Ta'ala ko (raat ki) namaazon mein sab zyada mahboob Dawood Alayhis Salam ki namaz hai, woh aadhi raat namaz parhte, ek tihai sote, aur raat ka chhata hissa tasbeeh parhte thay. Imam Darmi Rahmatullah Alayh ne kaha: yeh aakhri jumla ghalat hai, sahih yeh hai keh aadhi raat woh sote, ek tihai namaz parhte, aur ek suds tasbeeh karte thay.
أَخْبَرَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو يَعْنِي ابْنَ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَوْسٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، يَرْفَعُهُ قَالَ: "أَحَبُّ الصِّيَامِ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ صِيَامُ دَاوُدَ، كَانَ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا، وَأَحَبُّ الصَّلَاةِ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ صَلَاةُ دَاوُدَ، كَانَ يُصَلِّي نِصْفًا، وَيَنَامُ ثُلُثًا، وَيُسَبِّحُ سُدُسًا". قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد: هَذَا اللَّفْظُ الْأَخِيرُ غَلَطٌ أَوْ خَطَأٌ، إِنَّمَا هُوَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَنَامُ نِصْفَ اللَّيْلِ وَيُصَلِّي ثُلُثَهُ، وَيُسَبِّحُ تَسْبِيحَةً.
