اعمش (سلیمان بن مہران) نے کہا: اسماعیل بن رجاء منشیوں کے بچوں کو جمع کر کے انہیں حدیث سنایا کرتے تھے، وہ اسی طرح یاد کرتے تھے۔

(حديث مقطوع) أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، أَنْبَأَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ، قَالَ: "كَانَ إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ رَجَاءٍ يَجْمَعُ صِبْيَانَ الْكُتَّابِ يُحَدِّثُهُمْ يَتَحَفَّظُ بِذَاكَ".
