Chapter: The Time Of The 'Isha' Prayer

باب وَقْتِ صَلاَةِ الْعِشَاءِ ‏

Sunan Ibn Majah 690

It was narrated from Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) that the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said : "Were it not that it would be too difficult for my Ummah, I would have commanded them to delay the 'Isha'.


Grade: Sahih

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: اگر اس بات کا ڈر نہ ہوتا کہ میں اپنی امت کو مشقت میں ڈال دوں گا، تو میں انہیں عشاء کی نماز میں دیر کرنے کا حکم دیتا ۔

Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se riwayat hai ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Agar is baat ka dar na hota ke main apni ummat ko mushqut mein daal doon ga, to main unhen isha ki namaz mein der karne ka hukm deta.

حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَأَمَرْتُهُمْ بِتَأْخِيرِ الْعِشَاءِ .

Sunan Ibn Majah 691

It was narrated that Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said, the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said : 'Were it not that it would be too difficult for my Ummah, I would have delayed the 'Isha' prayer until one third or one half of the night had passed.'


Grade: Sahih

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: اگر اس بات کا ڈر نہ ہوتا کہ میں اپنی امت کو مشقت میں ڈال دوں گا، تو میں عشاء کی نماز تہائی یا آدھی رات تک مؤخر کرتا ۔

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَأَخَّرْتُ صَلَاةَ الْعِشَاءِ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ أَوْ نِصْفِ اللَّيْلِ .

Sunan Ibn Majah 692

Humaid narrated that Anas bin Malik (رضي الله تعالى عنه) was asked, did the Prophet ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) wear a ring?' He said : 'Yes.' One night he delayed the 'Isha' prayer until almost the middle of the night. When he had prayed, he turned to face us and said : 'The people have prayed and gone to sleep, but you will still be in a state of prayer so long as you are waiting for the (next) prayer.' Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said : "It was as if I can see the sparkle from his ring.'

حمید کہتے ہیں کہ انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ سے پوچھا گیا: کیا نبی اکرم ﷺ نے انگوٹھی بنوائی تھی؟ انہوں نے کہا: جی ہاں، ایک رات آپ نے عشاء کی نماز آدھی رات کے قریب مؤخر کی، جب آپ نماز سے فارغ ہوئے تو ہماری جانب متوجہ ہو کر فرمایا: اور لوگ نماز پڑھ کر سو گئے، اور تم لوگ برابر نماز ہی میں رہے جب تک نماز کا انتظار کرتے رہے ، انس رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں: گویا میں آپ کی انگوٹھی کی چمک دیکھ رہا ہوں۔

Hamid kehte hain ke Anas bin Malik radhiallahu anhu se poochha gaya: kya Nabi Akram (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne angothi banwai thi? Unhon ne kaha: ji han, ek raat aap ne isha ki namaz aadh raat ke qareeb muakhkhar ki, jab aap namaz se farigh hue to hamari janib mutawijjah ho kar farmaya: aur log namaz padh kar so gaye, aur tum log barabar namaz hi mein rahe jab tak namaz ka intezar karte rahe, Ins radhiallahu anhu kehte hain: goya main aap ki angothi ki chamak dekh raha hon.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سُئِلَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏هَلِ اتَّخَذَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَاتَمًا؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخَّرَ لَيْلَةً صَلَاةَ الْعِشَاءِ الآخِرَةَ إِلَى قَرِيبٍ مِنْ شَطْرِ اللَّيْلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا صَلَّى أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا بِوَجْهِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ صَلَّوْا وَنَامُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنَّكُمْ لَنْ تَزَالُوا فِي صَلَاةٍ مَا انْتَظَرْتُمُ الصَّلَاةَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَنَسٌ:‏‏‏‏ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى وَبِيصِ خَاتَمِهِ.

Sunan Ibn Majah 693

It was narrated that Abu Sa'eed ( رضي الله تعالى عنه) said, the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) led us in Maghrib prayer. Then he did not come out until half the night had passed. Then he came out and led them in prayer, then he said : 'The people have prayed and gone to sleep, but you are still in a state of prayer so long as you are waiting for the (next) prayer. Were it not for the weak and the sick, I wanted to delay this prayer until the middle of the night.'

ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے ہمیں مغرب کی نماز پڑھائی، پھر آدھی رات تک ( حجرہ سے ) باہر نہ آئے، پھر نکلے اور لوگوں کو عشاء کی نماز پڑھائی اور فرمایا: اور لوگ نماز پڑھ کر سو گئے، اور تم برابر نماز ہی میں رہے جب تک نماز کا انتظار کرتے رہے، اگر مجھے کمزوروں اور بیماروں کا خیال نہ ہوتا تو میں اس نماز کو آدھی رات تک مؤخر کرنا پسند کرتا ۔

Abu Saeed Khudri (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne humen Maghrib ki namaz padhai, phir aadhi raat tak ( Hajra se) bahar nah aaye, phir nikle aur logoon ko Isha ki namaz padhai aur farmaya: Aur log namaz padh kar so gaye, aur tum barabar namaz hi mein rahe jab tak namaz ka intezaar karte rahe, agar mujhe kamzoron aur bimaron ka khayal nah hota to main is namaz ko aadhi raat tak muakhar karna pasand karta.

حَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى اللَّيْثِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ أَبِي هِنْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الْمَغْرِبِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ لَمْ يَخْرُجْ حَتَّى ذَهَبَ شَطْرُ اللَّيْلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَخَرَجَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ صَلَّوْا وَنَامُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَنْتُمْ لَمْ تَزَالُوا فِي صَلَاةٍ مَا انْتَظَرْتُمُ الصَّلَاةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَوْلَا الضَّعِيفُ وَالسَّقِيمُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ أُؤَخِّرَ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ إِلَى شَطْرِ اللَّيْلِ .
