Chapter: Tasbih (glorifying Allah) when bowing and prostrating

باب التَّسْبِيحِ فِي الرُّكُوعِ وَالسُّجُودِ ‏

Sunan Ibn Majah 887

Uqbah bin ‘Amir Al-Juhani (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said: “When the following was revealed: ‘So glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most Great’, (Al-Haaqqa – 52) the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said to us: ‘Say this in your Ruku’.’ And when the following was revealed: ‘Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High.’(Al- A’laa -1) the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said to us: ‘Say this in your prostrations.’’

عقبہ بن عامر جہنی رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ جب آیت کریمہ: «فسبح باسم ربك العظيم» نازل ہوئی تو رسول اللہ ﷺ نے ہم سے فرمایا: اسے اپنے رکوع میں کہا کرو ، پھر جب «سبح اسم ربك الأعلى» نازل ہوئی تو ہم سے فرمایا: اسے اپنے سجدے میں کہا کرو ۔

Aqba bin Aamer Jahni (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke jab aayat kareema: «Fsubhan bi-smi Rabbi-l-azim» nazil hui to Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne hum se farmaya: Isay apne ruku mein kaha karo, phir jab «Subhan bi-smi Rabbi-l-a'la» nazil hui to hum se farmaya: Isay apne sajday mein kaha karo

حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ رَافِعٍ الْبَجَلِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ أَيُّوبَ الْغَافِقِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ عَمِّيإِيَاسَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيَّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ:‏‏‏‏ فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ سورة الواقعة آية 74، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ اجْعَلُوهَا فِي رُكُوعِكُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا نَزَلَتْ:‏‏‏‏ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى سورة الأعلى آية 1، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ اجْعَلُوهَا فِي سُجُودِكُمْ .

Sunan Ibn Majah 888

It was narrated from Hudhaifah bin Al-Yaman (رضي الله تعالى عنه) that he heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) say when he bowed: “Subhana Rabbiyal-‘Azim (Glory is to my Lord, the Most Great)” three times, and when he prostrated he said: “Subhana Rabbiyal-A’la (Glory is to my Lord the Most High)” three times.


Grade: Da'if

حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ انہوں نے رسول اللہ ﷺ کو رکوع میں «سبحان ربي العظيم» تین بار، اور سجدہ میں «سبحان ربي الأعلى» تین بار کہتے سنا۔

Huzaifa (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se Riwayat hai ke unhon ne Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko Ruku mein «Subhan Rabbi al-Azim» teen bar, aur Sajdah mein «Subhan Rabbi al-A'la» teen bar kahte suna.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي الْأَزْهَرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ الْيَمَانِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا رَكَعَ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيمِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ .

Sunan Ibn Majah 889

It was narrated that ‘Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضي الله تعالى عنها) said: “The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) often used to say when bowing and prostrating: ‘Subhanak Allahumma wa bi hamdika, Allahummaghfir li (Glory be to You, O Allah ( ع ز و ج ل), and praise; O Allah (ع ز و ج ل) forgive me),’ following the command given by the Qur’an.”[ An-Nasr (Sura -110)]


Grade: Sahih

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ قرآن کی عملی تفسیر کرتے ہوئے اکثر اپنے رکوع میں «سبحانك اللهم وبحمدك اللهم اغفر لي» اے اللہ! تو پاک ہے، اور سب تعریف تیرے لیے ہے، اے اللہ! تو مجھے بخش دے پڑھتے ۔

Am al-Momineen Ayesha ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) kehti hain ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) Quran ki amli tafseer karte huwe aksar apne rukoo mein «Subhanaka Allahumma Wa Bihmadka Allahummaghfir Li» ae Allah! to pak hai, aur sab tareef tere liye hai, ae Allah! to mujhe bakhsh de padhte 1؎.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُكْثِرُ أَنْ يَقُولَ فِي رُكُوعِهِ وَسُجُودِهِ:‏‏‏‏ سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي يَتَأَوَّلُ الْقُرْآنَ.

Sunan Ibn Majah 890

It was narrated that Ibn Mas’ud (رضي الله تعالی عنہ) said: “The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said: ‘When anyone of you bows, let him say in his bowing: “Subhana Rabbiyal-‘Azim (Glory is to my Lord, the Most Great)” three times; if he does that his bowing will be complete. And when anyone of you prostrates, let him say in his prostration, ‘Subhana Rabbiyal-A’la (Glory if to my Lord, the Most High)” three times; if he does that, his prostration will be complete, and that is the minimum.’”


Grade: Da'if

عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: جب کوئی شخص رکوع کرے تو اپنے رکوع میں تین بار «سبحان ربي العظيم» کہے، جب اس نے ایسا کر لیا تو اس کا رکوع مکمل ہو گیا، اور جب کوئی شخص سجدہ کرے تو اپنے سجدہ میں تین بار «سبحان ربي الأعلى» کہے، جب اس نے ایسا کر لیا تو اس کا سجدہ مکمل ہو گیا، اور یہ کم سے کم تعداد ہے ۔

Abdul-Allah bin Mas'ud (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Rasool Allah salla-llahu alaihi wa sallam ne farmaya: Jab koi shakhs rukoo kare to apne rukoo mein teen bar "Subhan Rabbi al-Azim" kahe, jab us ne aisa kar liya to us ka rukoo mukammal ho gaya, aur jab koi shakhs sajda kare to apne sajda mein teen bar "Subhan Rabbi al-A'la" kahe, jab us ne aisa kar liya to us ka sajda mukammal ho gaya, aur yeh kam se kam tadad hai

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ خَلَّادٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِسْحَاق بْنِ يَزِيدَ الْهُذَلِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا رَكَعَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلْ فِي رُكُوعِهِ:‏‏‏‏ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيمِ ثَلَاثًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِذَا فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فَقَدْ تَمَّ رُكُوعُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا سَجَدَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلْ فِي سُجُودِهِ:‏‏‏‏ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى ثَلَاثًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِذَا فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فَقَدْ تَمَّ سُجُودُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَذَلِكَ أَدْنَاهُ .
