Sunan Ibn Majah 1722
It was narrated that Abu ‘Ubaid (رضي الله تعالی عنہ) said: “I was present for ‘Eid with ‘Umar bin Khattab (رضي الله تعالى عنه). He started with the prayer before the sermon and said: ‘The Apostle of Allah (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) forbade fasting on these two days, the Day of Fitr and the Day of Adha. As for the Day of Fitr, it is the day when you break your fast, and on the Day of Adha you eat the meat of your sacrifices.’”

ابوعبید (سعد بن عبید الزہری) کہتے ہیں کہ میں عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ عید میں حاضر ہوا تو انہوں نے خطبہ سے پہلے نماز عید شروع کی اور کہا: رسول اللہ ﷺ نے ان دو دنوں میں روزہ رکھنے سے منع فرمایا ہے ایک تو عید الفطر، دوسرے عید الاضحی، رہا عید الفطر کا دن تو وہ تمہارے روزے سے افطار کا دن ہے، اور رہا عید الاضحی کا دن تو اس میں تم اپنی قربانیوں کا گوشت کھاتے ہو۔
Abu Ubaid (Saad bin Ubaid al-Zahri) kehte hain ke main Umar bin Khatab (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke sath Eid mein hazir huwa to unhon ne khutba se pehle namaz Eid shuru ki aur kaha: Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne in do dino mein roza rakhne se mana farmaya hai ek to Eid al-Fitr, dusre Eid al-Adha, raha Eid al-Fitr ka din to woh tumhare roze se iftar ka din hai, aur raha Eid al-Adha ka din to is mein tum apni qurbaniyon ka gosht khate ho.
حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ أَبِي سَهْلٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ، قَالَ: شَهِدْتُ الْعِيدَ مَعَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِفَبَدَأَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ صِيَامِ هَذَيْنِ الْيَوْمَيْنِ يَوْمِ الْفِطْرِ، وَيَوْمِ الْأَضْحَى، أَمَّا يَوْمُ الْفِطْرِ فَيَوْمُ فِطْرِكُمْ مِنْ صِيَامِكُمْ، وَيَوْمُ الْأَضْحَى تَأْكُلُونَ فِيهِ مِنْ لَحْمِ نُسُكِكُمْ .
