It is narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Bakra (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led the Companions in Maghrib prayer (as a prayer of fear) for three rak'ahs, then he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) finished the prayer. When the second group came, he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led them in prayer for three rak'ahs as well. Thus, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed six rak'ahs, and the Companions prayed three each.

سیدنا ابوبکرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے صحابہ کرام کو نماز مغرب (نماز خوف کے طور پر) تین رکعات پڑھائیں، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نماز سے فارغ ہو گئے، دوسرا گروہ آیا توآپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے انہیں بھی تین رکعات پڑھائیں، اس طرح نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی چھ رکعات ہوگئیں اور صحابہ کرام کی تین تین رکعات ہوئیں۔
Sayyidna Abu Bakrah Radi Allahu Anhu se riwayat hai ki Nabi Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ne Sahaba Kiram ko Namaz Maghrib (Namaz Khauf ke taur par) teen rakat parhayein, phir Aap Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Namaz se farigh ho gaye, dusra group aaya to Aap Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ne unhein bhi teen rakat parhayein, is tarah Nabi Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ki chhe rakat ho gayin aur Sahaba Kiram ki teen teen rakat ho gayin.
نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْمَرِ بْنِ رِبْعِيٍّ الْقَيْسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ الْبَكْرَاوِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَشْعَثُ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ : أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " صَلَّى بِالْقَوْمِ صَلاةَ الْمَغْرِبِ ثَلاثَ رَكَعَاتٍ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ، وَجَاءَ الآخَرُونَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ ثَلاثَ رَكَعَاتٍ، فَكَانَتْ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سِتٌّ رَكَعَاتٍ، وَلِلْقَوْمِ ثَلاثٌ ثَلاثٌ"
