The Book of Charity (Zakat)

كِتَابُ الزَّكَاةِ

The chapter on the virtue of charity from the surplus of wealth over those whom the giver supports.

بَابُ فَضْلِ الصَّدَقَةِ عَنِ ظَهْرِ غِنًى يَفْضُلُ عَمَّنْ يَعُولُ الْمُتَصَدِّقُ

Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 2439

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The best charity is that which is given in the state of wealth. And begin (giving charity) with those who are your dependents."

سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”بہترین صدقہ وہ ہے جو مالداری کی حالت میں کیا جائے۔ اور اپنے اہل وعیال پر خرچ کرنے سے (صدقہ کرنا) شروع کرو۔“

Sayyidina Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu Anhu bayan karte hain keh Rasul Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ne farmaya: "Behtarin sadaqah woh hai jo maldari ki halat mein kiya jaye. Aur apne ahl o ayaal par kharch karne se (sadqah karna) shuru karo."

حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " خَيْرُ الصَّدَقَةِ مَا كَانَ عَنْ ظَهْرِ غِنًى، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ" ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُزَيْرَ ، أَنَّ سَلامَةَ ، حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ سَوَاءً

Sayyiduna Malik ibn Nadla, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Hands are of three types: The Hand of Allah, the Most High, is most exalted. Below it is the hand of the giver of charity, and the hand of the beggar is the lowest. So whatever wealth remains (after spending on your family), give it in charity, and do not follow your desires (when they prevent you from giving charity)."

سیدنا مالک بن نضالہ رضی اللہ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”ہاتھ تین قسم کے ہیں، اللہ تعالیٰ کا ہاتھ نہایت بلند و بالا ہے۔ اس کے نیچے صدقہ کرنے والے کا ہاتھ ہے اور ما نگنے والے کا ہاتھ سب سے نیچے ہے۔ لہٰذا جو مال (اہل وعیال پر خرچ کرنے کے بعد) بچ جائے وہ صدقہ کردو اور اپنے نفس کے پیچھے نہ لگو (جب وہ تمہیں صدقہ کرنے سے روکے)۔“

Sayyidaana Maalik bin Nizaalah Radi Allahu Anhu bayaan karte hain keh Rasool Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ne farmaya: "Haath teen qisam ke hain, Allah Ta'ala ka haath nihayat buland o baala hai. Iss ke neeche sadqah karne wale ka haath hai aur maangne wale ka haath sab se neeche hai. Lihaaza jo maal (ahl o ayaal par kharch karne ke baad) bach jaye woh sadqah kardo aur apne nafs ke peeche na lago (jab woh tumhein sadqah karne se roke)."

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الزَّعْرَاءِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ مَالِكُ بْنُ نَضْلَةَ ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " الأَيْدِي ثَلاثَةٌ: فَيَدُ اللَّهِ الْعُلْيَا، وَيَدُ الْمُعْطِي الَّتِي تَلِيهَا، وَيَدُ السَّائِلِ السُّفْلَى، فَأَعْطِ الْفَضْلَ، وَلا تَعْجَزْ عَنْ نَفْسِكِ"
