The Book of Leadership in Prayer

كِتَابُ الْإِمَامَةِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ
Chapter on the explanation that those with knowledge and understanding are more deserving of the first row, as the Prophet, peace be upon him, commanded them to be near him.
بَابُ ذِكْرِ الْبَيَانِ أَنَّ أُولِي الْأَحْلَامِ وَالنُّهَى أَحَقُّ بِالصَّفِّ الْأَوَّلِ إِذِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ بِأَنَ يَلُوهُ.

Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 1572
Narrated `Abdullah bin Mas'ud: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "The best of you are those who have the most intelligence and give the best religious verdicts, then those who are next to them (in these qualities), then those who are next to them (in these qualities). And do not differ (with the Imam), for that will cause your hearts to differ. And beware of being found at the edges of marketplaces."

سیدنا عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”تم میں سے اہل دانش اور عقل مند لوگ میرے نزدیک کھڑے ہوں، پھر وہ جو (عقل و تمیز میں) ان کے قریب ہوں۔ پھر وہ جو اُن کے قریب ہوں۔ اور تم آپس میں اختلاف نہ کرو، وگرنہ تمہارے دل بھی مختلف ہو جائیں گے اور تم بازاروں کے شور و غل سے (مسجدوں میں) پرہیز کرو۔“
Sayyidina Abdullah bin Masood Radi Allahu Anhu bayan karte hain keh Rasul Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ne farmaya: ”Tum mein se ahl-e-danish aur aql mand log mere nazdeek kharay hon, phir woh jo (aql-o-tameez mein) un ke qareeb hon. Phir woh jo un ke qareeb hon. Aur tum aapas mein ikhtilaf na karo, warna tumhare dil bhi mukhtalif ho jayenge aur tum bazaron ke shor-o-ghul se (masjido mein) parhez karo.”
نا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ ، وَبِشْرُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ ، قَالا: حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لِيَلِنِي مِنْكُمْ أُولُو الأَحْلامِ وَالنُّهَى، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ، وَلا تَخْتَلِفُوا، فَتَخْتَلِفَ قُلُوبُكُمْ، وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَهَيْشَاتِ الأَسْوَاقِ"
