Chapter of purity from menstruation
بَابُ طُهْرِ الْحَائِضِ
Muwatta Imam Malik 125
Yahya related to me from Malik from Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr from his paternal aunt from the daughter of Zayd ibn Thabit that she had heard that women used to ask for lamps in the middle of the night to check their purity. She would criticise them for this saying, "Women never used to do this," i.e. in the time of the companions.Malik was asked whether a woman whose period had finished could do tayammum to purify herself if she could not find waterand he said, "Yes, because she is like some one in a state of major ritual impurity, who, if he cannot find water, does tayammum."

حضرت زید بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ کی بیٹی ( اُمِ کلثوم رحمہ اللہ جو سالم رحمہ اللہ بن عبداللہ بن عمر کی بیوی تھیں ) سے روایت ہے ، ان کو یہ خبر پہنچی کہ بے شک کچھ عورتیں رات کے درمیان میں بھی چراغ منگواتی اور حالتِ طہر دیکھتی ہیں ، تو اُمِ کلثوم ان کے اس عمل کو ان کے لیے معیوب سمجھتیں اور کہتیں کہ ( صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہم کی ) عورتیں تو ایسا ( تکلف ) نہیں کرتی تھیں ۔
Hazrat Zaid bin Sabit (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ki beti (Umm Kulthum Rahma Allahu jo Salim Rahma Allahu bin Abdullah bin Umar ki biwi thin) se riwayat hai, un ko ye khabar pahunchi ki be shak kuchh auraten raat ke darmiyaan mein bhi chiraag mangwati aur halat e taher dekhti hain, to Umm Kulthum un ke is amal ko un ke liye maayooub samajhti thin aur kahti thin ki (Sahaba Karam (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ki) auraten to aisa (takalluf) nahin karti thin.
وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ عَمَّتِهِ ، عَنِ ابْنَةِ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهَا أَنَّ نِسَاءً كُنَّ يَدْعُونَ بِالْمَصَابِيحِ مِنْ جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ يَنْظُرْنَ إِلَى الطُّهْرِ فَكَانَتْ تَعِيبُ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِنَّ ، وَتَقُولُ : « مَا كَانَ النِّسَاءُ يَصْنَعْنَ هَذَا »
