Chapter of wiping over the head and ears
بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الْمَسْحِ بِالرَّأْسِ وَالْأُذُنَيْنِ
Muwatta Imam Malik 67
Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi that she saw Safiyya bint Abi Ubayd, the wife of Abdullah ibn 'Umar, take off her head- covering and wipe her head with water. Nafi was a child at the time.Malik was asked about a man who did wudu but forgot to wipe his head until the water had dried. He said, "I consider that he should wipe his head and then repeat the prayer if he has already performed it."Malik was asked about a man who did wudu but forgot to wipe his head until the water had dried. یحییٰ نے مجھ سے، امام مالک رحمۃ اللہ علیہ سے، نافع سے روایت کی کہ انہوں نے صفّیہ بنت ابی عبید رضی اللہ عنہا، جو عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کی زوجہ تھیں، کو دیکھا کہ انہوں نے اپنا سر ڈھانپا ہوا تھا، پھر اسے اتار کر پانی سے اپنا سر مسح کیا، نافع اس وقت بچّی تھیں، امام مالک رحمۃ اللہ علیہ سے اس شخص کے بارے میں سوال کیا گیا جس نے وضو کیا اور اس کا سر مسح کرنا بھول گیا یہاں تک کہ اس کا سر خشک ہوگیا؟ تو آپ نے فرمایا: ’’میری رائے میں اسے چاہیے کہ اپنے سر کا مسح کرے اور اگر اس نے نماز پڑھ لی ہے تو اسے دہرائے۔‘‘
Yahiya ne mujh se, Imam Malik rehmatullah alaih se, Nafi se riwayat ki ke unhon ne Safiyya bint Abi Ubaid raziallahu anha, jo Abdullah bin Umar raziallahu anhuma ki zauja thin, ko dekha ke unhon ne apna sar dhaanka hua tha, phir usay utaar kar pani se apna sar masah kiya, Nafi us waqt bachchi thin, Imam Malik rehmatullah alaih se us shakhs ke baare mein sawal kiya gaya jis ne wuzu kiya aur us ka sar masah karna bhul gaya yahan tak ke us ka sar sookh gaya? To aap ne farmaya: “Meri rae mein usay chahiye ke apne sar ka masah kare aur agar us ne namaz parh li hai to usay dohrae.”
وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّهُ رَأَى صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ ، امْرَأَةَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، « تَنْزِعُ خِمَارَهَا ، وَتَمْسَحُ عَلَى رَأْسِهَا بِالْمَاءِ » - وَنَافِعٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ صَغِيرٌ - وَسُئِلَ مَالِكٌ عَنِ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْعِمَامَةِ وَالْخِمَارِ . فَقَالَ : « لَا يَنْبَغِي أَنْ يَمْسَحَ الرَّجُلُ وَلَا الْمَرْأَةُ عَلَى عِمَامَةٍ وَلَا خِمَارٍ ، وَلْيَمْسَحَا عَلَى رُءُوسِهِمَا » وَسُئِلَ مالكٌ عَنْ رَجُلٍ تَوَضَّأَ ، فَنَسِيَ أَنْ يَمْسَحَ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ ، حَتَّى جَفَّ وَضُوءهُ ؟ قَالَ : « أَرَى أَنْ يَمْسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ . وَإِنْ كَانَ قَدْ صَلَّى ، أَنْ يُعِيدَ الصَّلَاةَ »
