كِتَابُ الِاعْتِكَافِ
Chapter on what is mentioned about the Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr)
بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ
Muwatta Imam Malik 684
Ziyad related to me from Malik that he had heard a man he trusted of the people of knowledge say, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was shown the lifespans of the people (who had gone) before him, or what Allah willed of that, and it was as if the lives of the people of his community had become too short for them to be able to do as many good actions as others before them had been able to do with their long lives, so Allah gave him Laylat al- Qadr, which is better than a thousand months."
زیاد نے مجھ سے مالک کی سند سے روایت کی کہ انہوں نے ایک ایسے شخص سے سنا جس پر وہ اہلِ علم میں سے اعتبار کرتے تھے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو آپ سے پہلے گزرے ہوئے لوگوں کی عمریں دکھائی گئیں، یا اس میں سے وہ دکھایا گیا جو اللہ نے چاہا، تو آپ کو ایسا محسوس ہوا جیسے آپ کی امت کی عمریں بہت مختصر کر دی گئیں ہیں کہ اتنے نیک اعمال نہیں کر سکیں گے جتنے آپ سے پہلے والے اپنی طویل عمروں میں کر لیتے تھے، تو اللہ نے آپ کو لیلۃ القدر عطا فرمائی جو ہزار مہینوں سے بہتر ہے۔
Ziyad ne mujh se Malik ki sanad se riwayat ki keh unhon ne aik aise shakhs se suna jis par woh ahle ilm mein se aitbaar karte thay keh Rasool Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam ko aap se pehle guzre huwe logon ki umren dikhayi gayin, ya is mein se woh dikhaya gaya jo Allah ne chaha, to aap ko aisa mehsoos huwa jaise aap ki ummat ki umren bahut mukhtasar kar di gayin hain keh itne nek amal nahin kar sakenge jitne aap se pehle wale apni taweel umron mein kar lete thay, to Allah ne aap ko Laylatul Qadr ata farmaayi jo hazaar mahinon se behtar hai.
وحَدَّثَنِي زِيَادٌ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مَنْ يَثِقُ بِهِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ يَقُولُ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ : « أُرِيَ أَعْمَارَ النَّاسِ قَبْلَهُ . أَوْ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ . فَكَأَنَّهُ تَقَاصَرَ أَعْمَارَ أُمَّتِهِ أَنْ لَا يَبْلُغُوا مِنَ الْعَمَلِ ، مِثْلَ الَّذِي بَلَغَ غَيْرُهُمْ فِي طُولِ الْعُمْرِ ، فَأَعْطَاهُ اللَّهُ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ ، خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ »
