‘Aun reported Ibn Mas'ud as saying, “Two greedy ones never attain satisfaction, the learned man and the worldly man, but they are not equal. The learned man becomes more pleasing to the Compassionate One, but the worldly man perseveres in transgression." Then ‘Abdallah [ibn Mas'ud] recited, “Nay, but man transgresses in considering that he is self-sufficient. "* He added, “The other is preferable, for ‘only those of His servants who are learned fear God.’ " [Ibid, xxxv, 28.] Darimi transmitted it. *Qur’an, xcvi, 6 f.

عون ؒ بیان کرتے ہیں ، عبداللہ بن مسعود ؓ نے فرمایا :’’ دو بھوکے حریص لوگ سیر نہیں ہوتے صاحب علم اور صاحب دنیا ، اور یہ دونوں برابر بھی نہیں ہو سکتے ، رہا صاحب علم تو وہ رحمان کی رضا مندی میں بڑھتا چلا جاتا ہے ،اور رہا صاحب دنیا تو وہ سرکشی میں بڑھتا چلا جاتا ہے ۔ پھر عبداللہ ؓ نے یہ آیت تلاوت فرمائی :’’ ہاں بلاشبہ انسان سرکش ہو جاتا ہے ، جب وہ اپنے آپ کو بے نیاز سمجھتا ہے ۔‘‘ راوی بیان کرتے ہیں ، انہوں نے دوسرے کے لیے یہ آیت تلاوت فرمائی :’’ بات صرف یہ ہے کہ اللہ کے بندوں میں سے علما ہی اس سے ڈرتے ہیں ۔‘‘ اسنادہ ضعیف ، رواہ الدارمی (۱/ ۹۶ ح ۳۳۹) ۔
Aun bayan karte hain, Abdullah bin Masood ne farmaya: ''Do bhooke haris log ser nahin hote sahib ilm aur sahib dunya, aur ye donon barabar bhi nahin ho sakte, raha sahib ilm to woh Rehman ki raza mandi mein badhta chala jata hai, aur raha sahib dunya to woh sarkashi mein badhta chala jata hai. Phir Abdullah ne ye aayat tilawat farmaayi: '' Haan bilashuba insan sarkash ho jata hai, jab woh apne aap ko be niyaz samajhta hai.'' Rawi bayan karte hain, unhon ne dusre ke liye ye aayat tilawat farmaayi: ''Baat sirf ye hai ki Allah ke bandon mein se ulama hi is se darte hain.'' Isnaadahu zaeef, Rawah al-Darami (1/96 H 339).
عَن عَوْنٍ قَالَ: قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ: مَنْهُومَانِ لَا يَشْبَعَانِ صَاحِبُ الْعِلْمِ وَصَاحِبُ الدُّنْيَا وَلَا يَسْتَوِيَانِ أَمَّا صَاحِبُ الْعِلْمِ فَيَزْدَادُ رِضًى لِلرَّحْمَنِ وَأَمَّا صَاحِبُ الدُّنْيَا فَيَتَمَادَى فِي الطُّغْيَانِ. ثُمَّ قَرَأَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ (كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ لَيَطْغَى أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَى)\قَالَ وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ (إِنَّمَا يَخْشَى اللَّهَ مِنْ عباده الْعلمَاء. رَوَاهُ الدَّارمِيّ\
