Abu Qatada said that he went out with God’s messenger and stayed behind with some of his companions who were in the sacred state, although he was not. They saw a wild ass before Abu Qatada saw it, and when they saw it they ignored it; but when he saw it he mounted a horse of his and asked them to hand him his whip. When they refused, he took it, chased the wild ass and killed it. Both he and they ate it, but afterwards they repented, so when they caught up on God's messenger they asked him about it. He asked if they had any of it with them, and when they told him they had a leg, the Prophet took it and ate it. Bukhari and Muslim. In a version by both of them it says that when they came to God’s messenger he asked whether any of them had ordered or suggested to him that he should chase it, and when they replied that they had not, he told them to eat the flesh that remained.

ابوقتادہ ؓ سے روایت ہے کہ وہ (حدیبیہ کے سال) رسول اللہ ﷺ کے ساتھ روانہ ہوئے تو وہ اپنے بعض ساتھیوں کے ساتھ پیچھے رہ گئے ، وہ حالت احرام میں تھے جبکہ وہ خود حالت احرام میں نہیں تھے ، انہوں نے میرے دیکھنے سے پہلے ایک جنگلی گدھا دیکھا ، جب انہوں نے اسے دیکھا تو انہوں نے اسے چھوڑ دیا حتی کہ ابوقتادہ نے اسے دیکھ لیا ، وہ اپنے گھوڑے پر سوار ہوا اور ان (اپنے ساتھیوں) سے مطالبہ کیا کہ وہ اسے اس کا کوڑا پکڑا دیں لیکن انہوں نے انکار کر دیا ، انہوں نے خود اسے لیا اور اس پر حملہ کر دیا اور اسے زخمی کر دیا ، پھر انہوں نے اور ان کے ساتھیوں نے اسے کھایا ، لیکن انہیں ندامت و پریشانی ہوئی ، جب وہ رسول اللہ ﷺ کے پاس پہنچے تو انہوں نے آپ ﷺ سے مسئلہ دریافت کیا ، آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ کیا اس کا کوئی حصہ تمہارے پاس ہے ؟‘‘ انہوں نے عرض کیا : اس کا ایک پاؤں ہمارے پاس ہے ، نبی ﷺ نے اسے لیا اور اسے کھایا ۔ اور صحیح بخاری اور صحیح مسلم کی دوسری روایت میں ہے : جب وہ رسول اللہ ﷺ کے پاس آئے تو آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ کیا تم میں سے کسی نے اسے کہا تھا کہ اس پر حملہ کرو ؟ یا اس کی طرف اشارہ کیا ہو ؟‘‘ انہوں نے عرض کیا ، نہیں ، آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ اس کا جو گوشت باقی بچا ہے اسے کھاؤ ۔‘‘ متفق علیہ ۔
Abuqtada se riwayat hai ki woh Hudaibiya ke saal Rasul Allah ke sath rawana huye to woh apne baaz sathiyon ke sath peeche reh gaye, woh halat ehram mein the jabke woh khud halat ehram mein nahi the, unhon ne mere dekhne se pehle ek jungli gadha dekha, jab unhon ne use dekha to unhon ne use chhod diya hatta ki Abuqtada ne use dekh liya, woh apne ghore par sawar hua aur un apne sathiyon se mutalba kiya ki woh use uska kora pakda den lekin unhon ne inkar kar diya, unhon ne khud use liya aur is par hamla kar diya aur use zakhmi kar diya, phir unhon ne aur unke sathiyon ne use khaya, lekin unhen nadamat o parishani hui, jab woh Rasul Allah ke pass pahunche to unhon ne aap se masla daryaft kiya, aap ne farmaya: kya iska koi hissa tumhare pass hai? unhon ne arz kiya: iska ek paon hamare pass hai, Nabi ne use liya aur use khaya. aur sahih Bukhari aur sahih Muslim ki dusri riwayat mein hai: jab woh Rasul Allah ke pass aaye to aap ne farmaya: kya tum mein se kisi ne use kaha tha ki is par hamla karo? ya iski taraf ishara kiya ho? unhon ne arz kiya, nahi, aap ne farmaya: iska jo gosht baqi bacha hai use khao. mutafaq alaih.
وَعَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَتَخَلَّفَ مَعَ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ وَهُمْ مُحْرِمُونَ وَهُوَ غَيْرُ مُحْرِمٍ فَرَأَوْا حِمَارًا وَحْشِيًّا قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرَاهُ فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ تَرَكُوهُ حَتَّى رَآهُ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ فَرَكِبَ فَرَسًا لَهُ فَسَأَلَهُمْ أَنْ يُنَاوِلُوهُ سَوْطَهُ فَأَبَوْا فَتَنَاوَلَهُ فَحَمَلَ عَلَيْهِ فَعَقَرَهُ ثُمَّ أَكَلَ فَأَكَلُوا فَنَدِمُوا فَلَمَّا أَدْرَكُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَأَلُوهُ. قَالَ: «هَلْ مَعَكُمْ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالُوا: مَعَنَا رِجْلُهُ فَأَخَذَهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسلم فَأكلهَا\وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ لَهُمَا: فَلَمَّا أَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «أَمِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ أَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَحْمِلَ عَلَيْهَا؟ أَوْ أَشَارَ إِلَيْهَا؟» قَالُوا: لَا قَالَ: «فَكُلُوا مَا بَقِيَ مِنْ لَحمهَا»\
