Salama b. al-Akwa' said:While we were sitting with the Prophet a bier was brought along and the Prophet was asked to pray over it. He asked whether the dead man owed anything and when he was told that he did not he prayed over it. Another bier was brought along later, and when he asked whether the dead man owed anything and was told that he did, he asked whether he had left anything. On being told that he had left three dinars he prayed over the bier. A third was brought along later, and when he asked whether the dead man owed anything and was told that he owed three dinars, he asked whether he had left anything. On being told that he had not, he ordered them to pray over their friend; but when Abu Qatada said, “Pray over him, Messenger of God, and I shall be responsible for his debt,” he prayed over him. Bukhari transmitted it.

سلمہ بن اکوع ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، ہم نبی ﷺ کے پاس بیٹھے ہوئے تھے کہ ایک جنازہ لایا گیا ، صحابہؓ نے عرض کیا : اس کی نماز جنازہ پڑھائیں ، آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ کیا اس پر کوئی قرض ہے ؟‘‘ انہوں نے عرض کیا : نہیں ۔ تو آپ نے اس کی نماز جنازہ پڑھائی ، پھر آپ کے پاس ایک اور جنازہ لایا گیا تو آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ کیا اس پر کوئی قرض ہے ؟‘‘ عرض کیا گیا : جی ہاں ، آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ کیا اس نے کوئی چیز ترکہ چھوڑی ہے ؟‘‘ انہوں نے عرض کیا : تین دینار ، آپ نے اُس کی نمازِ جنازہ پڑھی ، پھر تیسرا جنازہ لایا گیا تو آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ کیا اس پر کوئی قرض ہے ؟‘‘ انہوں نے عرض کیا : تین دینار ، آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ کیا اس نے کوئی ترکہ چھوڑا ہے ؟‘‘ انہوں نے عرض کیا : نہیں ، فرمایا :’’ اپنے ساتھی کی نماز جنازہ پڑھو ۔‘‘ ابوقتادہ ؓ نے عرض کیا : اللہ کے رسول ! آپ اس کی نماز جنازہ پڑھیں اور اس کا قرض میرے ذمہ رہا (میں ادا کروں گا) تب آپ ﷺ نے اس کی نماز جنازہ پڑھائی ۔ رواہ البخاری ۔
Salma bin Akwa bayan karte hain, hum Nabi ke pass baithe huye thay ki ek janaza laya gaya, sahaba ne arz kiya: is ki namaz janaza padhaen, aap ne farmaya: ''kya is par koi qarz hai?'' unhon ne arz kiya: nahin. to aap ne is ki namaz janaza padhai, phir aap ke pass ek aur janaza laya gaya to aap ne farmaya: ''kya is par koi qarz hai?'' arz kiya gaya: ji haan, aap ne farmaya: ''kya is ne koi cheez taraka chori hai?'' unhon ne arz kiya: teen dinar, aap ne us ki namaz janaza padhi, phir teesra janaza laya gaya to aap ne farmaya: ''kya is par koi qarz hai?'' unhon ne arz kiya: teen dinar, aap ne farmaya: ''kya is ne koi taraka chora hai?'' unhon ne arz kiya: nahin, farmaya: ''apne sathi ki namaz janaza parho.'' Abu Qatada ne arz kiya: Allah ke Rasool! aap is ki namaz janaza parhen aur is ka qarz mere zimme raha (main ada karunga) tab aap ne is ki namaz janaza padhai. Riwayat Bukhari.
وَعَن سَلمَة بن الْأَكْوَع قَالَ: كُنَّا جُلُوسًا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ أُتِيَ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَقَالُوا: صَلِّ عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ: «هَلْ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ؟» قَالُوا: لَا فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهَا ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِجِنَازَةٍ أُخْرَى فَقَالَ: «هَل عَلَيْهِ دين؟» قَالُوا: نعم فَقَالَ: «فَهَلْ تَرَكَ شَيْئًا؟» قَالُوا: ثَلَاثَةَ دَنَانِيرَ فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهَا ثمَّ أُتِي بالثالثة فَقَالَ: «هَلْ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ؟» قَالُوا: ثَلَاثَةُ دَنَانِيرَ قَالَ: «هَلْ تَرَكَ شَيْئًا؟» قَالُوا: لَا قَالَ: «صلوا على صَاحبكُم» قَالَ أَبُو قَتَادَة: صلى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسلم عَلَيْهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَعَلَيَّ دَيْنُهُ فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ. رَوَاهُ البُخَارِيّ
