Chapter: Clarifying that this ummah will form half of the People of Paradise

باب كَوْنِ هَذِهِ الأُمَّةِ نِصْفَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ‏

Sahih Muslim 221a

Abdullah bib Mas'ud (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported : The Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) addressing us said: Aren't you pleased that you should constitute one-fourth of the inhabitants of Paradise? He (the narrator) said: We glorified (our Lord, ie. we called aloud Allah-o Akbar, Allah is the Greatest). He, then, again said: Aren't you pleased that you should constitute one-third of the inhabitants of Paradise? He (the narrator) said: We glorified (our Lord) and he (the Prophet ﷺ) then again said: I hope that you would constitute half of the inhabitants of Paradise and I shall explain to you its (reason). The believers among the unbelievers would not be more than a white hair on (the body of a) black ox or a black hair on (the body of a) white ox.

حضرت عبداللہ ؓ سے روایت ہے، کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ہمیں فرمایا: ”کیا تم جنتیوں کا چوتھائی ہونے پر راضی ہو؟“ ہم نے (خوشی سے) اللہ اکبر کہا، پھر آپ نے فرمایا: ”کیا تم اس پر راضی نہیں ہو، کہ تم اہلِ جنت کا تہائی حصہ ہو؟“ تو ہم نے اللہ اکبر کہا، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”مجھے امید ہے، تم جنتیوں کا نصف ہو گے اور میں تمھیں اس کا سبب بتاتا ہوں۔ مسلمانوں کی کافروں سےنسبت ایسی ہے، جیسے ایک سیاہ بیل میں ایک سفید بال ہو، یا ایک سفید بالوں والے بیل میں ایک سیاہ بال ہو۔“

Hazrat Abdullah (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai, ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne hamein farmaya: "Kya tum Jannatiyon ka chouthayi hone par razi ho?" Hum ne (khushi se) Allahu Akbar kaha, phir Aap ne farmaya: "Kya tum is par razi nahin ho, ke tum Ahl-e-Jannat ka tiharayi hissa ho?" To hum ne Allahu Akbar kaha, phir Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Mujhe umeed hai, tum Jannatiyon ka nisf ho ge aur main tumhein is ka sabab batata hoon. Musalmanon ki kafiron se nisbat aisi hai, jaise ek siyah bail mein ek safaid baal ho, ya ek safaid baalon wale bail mein ek siyah baal ho."

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ أَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ تَكُونُوا رُبُعَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ‏"‏ قَالَ فَكَبَّرْنَا ‏.‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ ‏"‏ أَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ تَكُونُوا ثُلُثَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ‏"‏ قَالَ فَكَبَّرْنَا ‏.‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ ‏"‏ إِنِّي لأَرْجُو أَنْ تَكُونُوا شَطْرَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ وَسَأُخْبِرُكُمْ عَنْ ذَلِكَ مَا الْمُسْلِمُونَ فِي الْكُفَّارِ إِلاَّ كَشَعْرَةٍ بَيْضَاءَ فِي ثَوْرٍ أَسْوَدَ أَوْ كَشَعْرَةٍ سَوْدَاءَ فِي ثَوْرٍ أَبْيَضَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Sahih Muslim 221b

Abdullah bib Mas'ud (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported : We, about forty men, were with the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) in a camp when he said: Aren't you pleased that they should constitute one-fourth of the inhabitants of Paradise? He (the narrator) said: Yes. He (the Prophet ﷺ) again said: Aren't you pleased that you should constitute one-third of the inhabitants of Paradise? They said: Yes. Upon this he again said: By Him in Whose Hand is my life, I hope that you would constitute one-half of the inhabitants of Paradise and the reason is that no one would be admitted into Paradise but a believer and you are no more among the polytheists than as a white hair on the skin of a black ox or a black hair on the skin of a red ox.

حضرت عبداللہ ؓ سے روایت ہے کہ ہم ایک خیمہ میں تقریباً چالیس افراد رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ تھے، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ” کیا تم اہلِ جنت کا چوتھائی حصہ ہونے پر رضامند ہو؟“ ہم نے کہا: ہاں! تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا: ”کیا تم اہلِ جنت کا تہائی ہونے پر خوش ہو؟ “ تو ہم نے کہا: ہاں! تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اس ذات کی قسم! جس کے ہاتھ میں میری جان ہے، مجھے امید ہے، کہ تم اہلِ جنت کا نصف ہو گے، اور اس کی وجہ یہ ہے، کہ جنت میں صرف فرمانبردار لوگ داخل ہوں گے، اور مشرکوں میں تمھاری تعداد ایسی ہی ہے، جیسے سیاہ چمڑے والے بیل میں ایک سفید بال یا سرخ کھال والے بیل میں ایک سیاہ بال۔“

Hazrat Abdullah (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai ke hum ek khaime mein taqreeban chalis afrad Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke sath the, to Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Kya tum Ahl-e-Jannat ka chouthayi hissa hone par razamand ho?" Hum ne kaha: Han! To Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Kya tum Ahl-e-Jannat ka tihayi hone par khush ho?" To hum ne kaha: Han! To Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Is zaat ki qasam! Jis ke hath mein meri jaan hai, mujhe umeed hai, ke tum Ahl-e-Jannat ka nisf ho ge, aur is ki wajah ye hai, ke Jannat mein sirf farman-bardar log dakhil honge, aur mushrikon mein tumhari tadaad aisi hi hai, jaise siyah chamre wale bail mein ek safaid baal ya surkh khaal wale bail mein ek siyah baal."

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، - وَاللَّفْظُ لاِبْنِ الْمُثَنَّى - قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي قُبَّةٍ نَحْوًا مِنْ أَرْبَعِينَ رَجُلاً فَقَالَ ‏"‏ أَتَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ تَكُونُوا رُبُعَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ قَالَ قُلْنَا نَعَمْ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ أَتَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ تَكُونُوا ثُلُثَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ‏"‏ فَقُلْنَا نَعَمْ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ إِنِّي لأَرْجُو أَنْ تَكُونُوا نِصْفَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ وَذَاكَ أَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ لاَ يَدْخُلُهَا إِلاَّ نَفْسٌ مُسْلِمَةٌ وَمَا أَنْتُمْ فِي أَهْلِ الشِّرْكِ إِلاَّ كَالشَّعْرَةِ الْبَيْضَاءِ فِي جِلْدِ الثَّوْرِ الأَسْوَدِ أَوْ كَالشَّعْرَةِ السَّوْدَاءِ فِي جِلْدِ الثَّوْرِ الأَحْمَرِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Sahih Muslim 221c

Abdullah bin Mas'ud (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported : the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) addressed us and then supported his back (by reclining) against a leather tent and said: Behold, no one but a believing person would enter Paradise. O Allah, (see) have I conveyed (it not)? O' Allah, be witness (to it that I have conveyed it). (Then addressing the companions) he said: Don't you like that you should constitute one-fourth of the inhabitants of Paradise? We said: Yes, Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). He again said: Don't you like that you should constitute one-third of the inhabitants of Paradise? They said: Yes, Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). He said: I hope that you would constitute one- half of the inhabitants of Paradise and you would be among the peoples of the world, like a black hair on (the body of) a white ox or like a white hair on the body of a black ox.

حضرت عبداللہ ؓ سے روایت ہے، کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک چمڑے کے خیمہ سے ٹیک لگا کر خطبہ ارشاد فرمایا (خطاب کیا) اور فرمایا: ”یاد رکھو! جنت میں صرف مسلمان و اطاعت گزار انسان داخل ہو گا، اے اللہ! کیا میں نے پیغام پہنچا دیا؟ اے اللہ! تو گواہ ہو جا! کیا تم پسند کرتے ہو، کہ تم اہلِ جنت کا چوتھائی ہو؟ تو ہم نے کہا: ہاں! اے اللہ کے رسولؐ! آپ نے فرمایا: ” کیا تم چاہتے ہو، کہ تم اہلِ جنت کا تہائی ہو؟“ صحابہ ؓ نے کہا: ہاں! اے اللہ کے رسولؐ! آپ نے فرمایا: ”مجھے امید ہے، کہ تم اہلِ جنت کا نصف ہو گے۔ تم اپنے سوا امتوں میں اس سیاہ بال کی طرح ہو جو سفید بیل میں ہوتا ہے، یا اس سفید بال کی طرح ہو جو سیاہ بیل میں ہوتا ہے۔“

Hazrat Abdullah (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai, ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne ek chamre ke khaime se taik laga kar khutba irshad farmaya (khitab kiya) aur farmaya: "Yaad rakkho! Jannat mein sirf Musalman-o-ita'at guzar insaan dakhil ho ga, Ae Allah! Kya main ne paigham pahuncha diya? Ae Allah! Tu gawah ho ja! Kya tum pasand karte ho, ke tum Ahl-e-Jannat ka chouthayi ho? To hum ne kaha: Han! Ae Allah ke Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)! Aap ne farmaya: "Kya tum chahte ho, ke tum Ahl-e-Jannat ka tihayi ho?" Sahaba (Radi Allahu Anhum) ne kaha: Han! Ae Allah ke Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)! Aap ne farmaya: "Mujhe umeed hai, ke tum Ahl-e-Jannat ka nisf ho ge. Tum apne siwa ummaton mein is siyah baal ki tarah ho jo safaid bail mein hota hai, ya is safaid baal ki tarah ho jo siyah bail mein hota hai."

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، - وَهْوَ ابْنُ مِغْوَلٍ - عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَأَسْنَدَ ظَهْرَهُ إِلَى قُبَّةِ أَدَمٍ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ أَلاَ لاَ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ إِلاَّ نَفْسٌ مُسْلِمَةٌ اللَّهُمَّ هَلْ بَلَّغْتُ اللَّهُمَّ اشْهَدْ ‏.‏ أَتُحِبُّونَ أَنَّكُمْ رُبُعُ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَقُلْنَا نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ أَتُحِبُّونَ أَنْ تَكُونُوا ثُلُثَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالُوا نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ إِنِّي لأَرْجُو أَنْ تَكُونُوا شَطْرَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ مَا أَنْتُمْ فِي سِوَاكُمْ مِنَ الأُمَمِ إِلاَّ كَالشَّعْرَةِ السَّوْدَاءِ فِي الثَّوْرِ الأَبْيَضِ أَوْ كَالشَّعْرَةِ الْبَيْضَاءِ فِي الثَّوْرِ الأَسْوَدِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏
